1, when the bedroom lights go off, go to sleep never talk stressful things at bedtime

2, If you take the rs4 out of jaysrs4 your not the same Jay ie not the same person

3, The mrs should not be suggesting selling your car, you can

4, They always want more? Yes mate and that never stops, so if you buy a bigger house

- it will never be big enough
- you will never finish decorating
- and someone will always have better

Drive your car and kiss the badge, and if people are not happy then kiss my arse!

I've got to the stage where my car choice is just non-negotiable. Personally, I won't tie up that much capital in a depreciating asset (part of that brigade), but either way it's my only extravagance as has been stated above.

I don't even discuss car choice now. I just purchase and arrive at home with the new beast. Spend the evening running through a verbal exec summary of the man maths and it's done. Bit bumpy but it's a routine.

I don't really drink, I have a low maintenance 'school-run' wardrobe apart from suits and ultimately life is not a rehearsal.

Nearly every other penny spent from my disposable income is spent on the family. My ring-fenced car budget ain't shifting.

Obviously don't know how much you're looking to spend on the new house Jay, but is sacrificing the RS4 really going to add much to the fund, and how miserable are you going to be when it's gone? Keep the beastie mate, you know it makes sense

Are you staying in the area BTW, or moving further afield?

Staying local mate, that's if we can find a place!

North Leeds isn't exactly empty at the moment! I'd love to find a repo - however even knowing Mannings personally doesn't seem to pull any punches!!

She won't be going guys, I'll make damn sure about that!!

If ever anyone needs counselling, car forums save a fortune!! Lol

Jay, I'd calmly tell her next time she raises it, and she will, that prices on rs4s are down and the market is flooded with crap examples so the smart thing to do is keep yours and maintain it in top condition, no expense spared so in 3 or 4 years when they are rare classics that yours will command a princely sum and you'll upgrade to a new one AND have change for or holiday/hot tub whatever! ;) *could* happen eh? But by them hopefully things will have moved on.....

if you sell can always come back later and get another

Don't forget a mortgage can be the cheapest way to finance, don't think of the rs4 as an asset just load up the mortgage !

Keep the car, find another way to raise the funds the car would bring in... one of my lifes biggest regrets was giving in to such a request twice, although I now have a very nice S4, I sold my mint 750bhp Skyline R32 that took me 5 years to get it to the spec and condition I wanted to (not to mention the 50k) and further year to find it in Japan, 4 years after selling it I still look at my empty garage with a little tear in my eye.... never again will I give in, I'd rather live in a tent...

Well I have sold my rs4 at Christmas as we are looking to move this year,
I did not go to mad on the new car as wife would have given me hell don't you just love them.
I was going to buy a GTR but to save money went for a 2013 C63 amg with perfomance pack with 6k miles on and I sold my noble as well, but I did say when we get the house next year hope to get something really fast.

Me and the mrs are married, 1 child at the mo with another on the way, dont spend money on much apart from my family+the car same as you, massive petrolhead, were moving to a bigger house soon and i considerd selling my rs4 to put more money down as deposit for the new house. After speaking the mortgage company i was advised that it was only gunna make around £40-£50 per month difference to put down another 10-15k on the house! I didnt have to think very long about keeping the car for the sake of £50 a month.
Not sure what financial position your in but id reccomend checking out how much difference to your outgoings its actually going to make, i was surprised at how little difference there was.
It's not just £50 a month though is it. It's saving a packet in interest over the life of the term plus the oppotunity to move to a lower interest rate thus further reducing the amount you pay to the bank.

That's what I tend to do until recently. I'm going to get my next RS/R8/F-type R for my 30th I think as a treat to myself for having a pants car.
