Attaching number plate to RS4
Re: Attaching number plate to RS4
Unfortunately with this type of crime the property is rarely found and returned to it's rightful owner.
Re: Attaching number plate to RS4
I'd be on extra alert if I had a blue Avant around your way?
Sounds like someone's car may be getting stolen soon and your plates going on it?
Or they already are up to no good in a blue Avant and need to change the plates?

Yeah, thats what I thought.
The Avant makes a pretty good getaway vehicle, fast with a decent load space and fairly understated looks.
The only Avant owners that can sleep soundly at night are ones that own Imola Yellow examples!
And possibly the bright orange ones........ does anyone know if there are of these in the U.K.?

LOUD non-res Milltek cars will no doubt be less desirable to crims looking for a get away vehicle.

True, but they are probably not going to notice that until they start the car up and then it is a bit late!

Often they'll follow a car and see where it lives before going back in the dead of night for it. So as much noise as possible should deter them!

Re: Attaching number plate to RS4
You say you don't know how they would gain by using your plates on a stolen car! Well if you hadn't of reported your plates missing the car they are going to steal wouldn't of looked out the ordinary at all and would of checked back clear on your plates. Otherwise they would of been driving round in an obvious stolen car using its original plates as well.
So you have done the unlucky owner who's car will be going missing a favor but it don't necessarily have to be Blue like yours it could be any colour because unless it flags up on a Police ANPR as having something up with it then they are unlikely to check its the right colour to the reg plate it has on. So peeps, Don't think just because your car is not blue its not likely to get stolen if local!
Hope they catch them and they should have their hands cut off as well as their balls to stop them reproducing scum!

Re: Attaching number plate to RS4
I just spotted this thread so I'm a bit late but the timing is interesting for me.
I've got a B7 RS4 and had a visit from the police early in September to tell me that my plates had been copied and my car cloned. That was the first I knew of it. The police think they must have done an online autotrader search earlier in the year (I bought it in April) and just found an identical car to theirs and copied my plates. The crux of it is that they've been using it for armed robberies and failing to stop after the police "have engaged in unsuccessful pursuits", and my car is now a red flashing light on the PNC so every time I leave my drive I get swarmed by police cars - this of course isn't helped by the ANPR cameras which don't distinguish between me and the bad guys. I've been stopped four times in the space of about 2 weeks including by armed police and also on one occasion getting boxed in on the motorway by three cars with a police helicopter hovering overhead...there goes your taxpayers money...the police have told me there's nothing they can do as the plate needs to stay on the PNC due to the substantive nature of the offence and the ANPR cameras will contiune to pick it up and they can only verify it is the original car once they've stopped it. Their only suggestion is to get a Sticker on my bumper so they know it's me - suggestions on a postcard...
As you might expect I am now planning on getting some private plates but it's p!ssing me off a little that this has now become my problem.
Just wanted to share that on this thread, rant over.

Re: Attaching number plate to RS4
Too right, cheap private plate would do the trick nicely. *As well as* being on the police hot list, the crim's in their cloned plate vehicle would then set off even more ANPR warnings as it won't show as taxed or insured!

Re: Attaching number plate to RS4
Sorry... Who would not report their plates stolen? What would they do..drive around with no plates on and hope to never get stopped? There are so many traffic cameras and speed cameras in the UK I can't see anyone lasting long without plates. So whoever has their plates stolen...like the op... is going to have to get new ones, yes? Do you get them from cracker jack boxes or something? Don't you have to go through the ministry of transportation?
