Audi Viper Car Alarm Upgrade (3303)
Re: Audi Viper Car Alarm Upgrade (3303)
Part of the problem is also how easy it appears to be to completely disable the alarm on the rs4. This viper alarm as I understand it is in addition to the current alarm which stays in place and active.
Re: Audi Viper Car Alarm Upgrade (3303)
Mike - That's it pretty much what I'm trying to achieve in a nutshell
A viable deterrent which unfortunately our current alarm does not satisfy.
Ben - I also understand that the Viper alarm compliments the current OEM security features - i.e. it does not replace or remove any thing Audi has in place.
The alarm we have already is Cat 1 which mainly means it is insurance approved and has an engine immobiliser. If anything this Viper alarm and it's options just improve security with extra internal/external sensors and deter the criminal into thinking twice before moving onto an easier target.
I'm not going for the engine remote start as I don't need it and personally I'll never use it. One upgrade that some have gone for is the Glass break sensor. I will probably add this to my package.
I think that we need 5 or more to get a 10% discount.

I thought the problem isn't that the alarm can be easily disabled, but that the "siren" is so quiet it's totally useless?BenWat wrote:Part of the problem is also how easy it appears to be to completely disable the alarm on the rs4. In 2005 I had my previous Audi broken into on our drive within 2 feet of our front door at around 6pm - and we didn't hear the "siren". Fortunately all they stole was my Road Angel, but they did smash the passenger front window.

Which is why I'm sat here wondering why no one has suggested changing just the siren to a louder one, surely that's possible.PetrolDave wrote:I thought the problem isn't that the alarm can be easily disabled, but that the "siren" is so quiet it's totally useless?BenWat wrote:Part of the problem is also how easy it appears to be to completely disable the alarm on the rs4. Re: Audi Viper Car Alarm Upgrade (3303)
I thought about mentining it but there was mention of bypassing the Audi alarm so thought an aftermarket solution might be the better option. Why do I keep reading about them damaging the interior light when stealing the seats? I'm pretty sure it's not just to make them harder to get spotted otherwise you'd just flick the switch. I imagine this is the way they disable the alarm (don't ask me how, I just can't figure out why they'd do it for any other reason).GlenRS wrote:Which is why I'm sat here wondering why no one has suggested changing just the siren to a louder one, surely that's possible.PetrolDave wrote:I thought the problem isn't that the alarm can be easily disabled, but that the "siren" is so quiet it's totally useless?BenWat wrote:Part of the problem is also how easy it appears to be to completely disable the alarm on the rs4. Also, where is the OEM siren? I bet it 's an an inaccessible place making it hard to re-route the wiring to a new siren.
Re: Audi Viper Car Alarm Upgrade (3303)
The interior sensors are in the light - my guess is if they are torn out the alarm cycles but doesn't detect a 2nd (continued) intrusion, the deadlocks will still be intact, hence their having to work through the window as even if the siren is pathetic wouldn't want to work on a car with the lights all flashing.
Agree the siren is pathetic - I once left a dog in the back of the car, came back to find it in the front seat with the hazards going off, couldn't hear the alarm from inside the house I had stopped at.
I believe it is in the boot, siren is probably OK in itself but just been sited somewhere naturally soundproofed !
More I think about all of this an effective alarm would probably be far more effective than locking bolts as not only does it make a theft far more likely to be completed but could also act as a deterrent.

Re: Audi Viper Car Alarm Upgrade (3303)
I was thinking this too. Dual proximty zone sensors to give a loud bleep when anyone is peering in through the windows; a loud siren if they are stupid enough to still try and break in and security film on the glass to stop them from getting in. That should do it.
Re: Audi Viper Car Alarm Upgrade (3303)
One feature I quite like that's standard about the Viper is that it has a 2K ft (610m) pager on the key fob so when the alarm goes off then it alerts you straight away by beeping and vibrating. (I think this can be upgraded to a mile if needed) So if you are out of ear shot, in a Shop or asleep inside the house then at least you get alerted.
I agree on the SupaGlass will slow them down if the seats or contents are what there after. I'm thinking of using Loctite Red (permanent) on the seat bolts as I have no intention of ever removing them.

Re: Audi Viper Car Alarm Upgrade (3303)
Hi,
I'm new on the forums - have had an 06 RS4 Avant for a couple of weeks now. Living in SW London and reading about these seat thefts has me a little paranoid. Would definitely be interested in an alarm upgrade group buy if it goes ahead.

Hi GroundControl,
Yes I can understand your concerns, I have the same.
We are going to need 5 people or more to get a 10% discount. I am a definite and I believe AdrianD is
I was going to let it run it's due course and see if any other people are interested....(would be good to get a few more so we can benefit from a discount)
So if you interested then please add your name to the list then we can go back to Antony with some numbers.

Re: Audi Viper Car Alarm Upgrade (3303)
Gavla - thanks for doing all this research. I'd be interested in adding my name to the list but as I live in the north-east it would not be easy or cheap for me to get to Bristol where I think the supplier is based. So I'd be interested in supply-only If possible, though this would presumably be cheaper and may affect the group buy discount?

I'm sure Antony can work something out on the unit but it's worth emailing him directly (antony@securemycar.co.uk) to confirm. If a few more register from around your area then it might good to see if he could come up and do all the installs in one day? Spreading the call out cost? Worth emailing him as he states he'll travel past 125 miles but I think you need to email for costs etc.. I'm sure he'll be flexible, seems a decent enough guy.

If anyone else in the North East/Yorkshire areas is interested in a 'group buy/fit' PM me please.
