New tyres, dry conditions and a lucky rabbit's foot can't save you from not being able to read a road and judge your speed properly ;-)

Goodbye rs4 crash! Still here :)

Post by lma07 » Thu Jan 17, 2013 11:12 pm

Yes, someone was looking after me on that day. I used to think 4wd was great in all conditions.
This is on a straight road (dual carriageway) but I didn't anticipate 2-3" of standing water to cause me to 360 and stop on a steel lamp post. Not sure if I'd been in a different car if I would have survived.
Just be careful in the wet whatever you drive.

Noticed you were running Vreds from your very first pic due to the front nearside wing being completely gone!

As he notes, he was very lucky :)

Standing water is *the* biggest concern I have on the road. And today's roads seem to have it more and more. I've seen a number of cars come a cropper as a result of it.

As the poster notes, be very, very careful in the wet no matter what you drive.

I gained my healthy respect for standing water when driving light rear wheel drive cars with no abs and traction control on semi slick tyres.

Ditto.

I have a Caterham 7 that can get very lively in the wet.

Taking that on track also helped learn to spot your run offs at all times.

+1

Hope youre recorvering okay, shocking pictures of the Avant and glad you got out in one piece..

Not sure if many cars would have stayed intact with that impact.

Think you get back into one as soon as possible once youre up and running..
