Starting to wonder if this is the right car for a daily

Post by Patgas1 » Fri Jun 27, 2014 2:53 pm

Wel I thought by spending a little extra on a low millage car I woudnt have to fork out ..........well so far in my couple of months ownership.......front shock two pipes and drc recharge although this was negotiated in price on purchase, then last week I though how strange water level is low topped it up and dropped again.so whilst checking oil cooler pipes low and behold rads leaking.
This week replaced two aux rads and while bumper was off checked oil cooler pipes luckily they are in great condition so sprayed them with some corrosion inhibitor and covered in clear waxoyle.
Any thing else go wrong aaaaaaaaagh
Next I would say carbon clean woudnt you guys ?

Car has done 52000 and I do prob 5000 a year as it's a second car,
The job didn't cost me anything as I replaced them......just cost of rads and coolant.
As for only one rad .....I could have gone down that route but I feel bodging a bit of hose ect together isn't for me so I want to keep it standard, the rad didn't cost much more than price of parts to do it anyway.audi spent lot of time, development and money on cooling system so only right it stays.

you'd like to think so but if they got the oil cooler and pipes so wrong who is to say they didn't mess up the cooling system too?
If you live in the UK that 2nd aux rad is just not needed, if you live in Saudi or Australia then better off keeping it.

Maybe so but by the time I'd pissed about with air intake and making it up ect it probably cosy the same so it was easier just to replace it to be honest.

No - next you get your buckets nicked!

Seriously, you've been unlucky, and most of what can go wrong has gone wrong (and no-one mention coil packs, TMPS sensors and the feeble avant rear wiper wash...)

Vacuum lines? Non inflating bolsters? Stuck exhaust flaps? Stuck air box solenoids? Broken glove box hinges? :audibash:

If you don't mind me asking, where did you source the Rads from? Specific part numbers?

At 8yrs old, mileage is not the issue.
