Driving home from work yesterday, and all of a sudden had this really loud screeching noise, and static coming from the speakers. Wouldn't stop even after turning the head unit off. Stopped just before I got to the house, but the really weird thing is, it did it again after I'd stopped the car and got out and locked it??
Happened again this morning as I reversed out the drive, but stopped as I pulled away.
I'm thinking possibly water getting into the electrics? It was raining yesterday, and I have noticed a drip from the interior light, possibly water getting in the sunroof? Any help much appreciated.

Re: Screeching and static from speakers
My guess is water in the cable between the head unit and amplifier. Have you checked around amplifier area to make sure everything is dry? Sorry, I can't even remember where the amplifier is anymore. I have a feeling it is behind the trim on the left hand side of the boot in the saloon, I assume similar in the estate. Or was it right hand side? Sorry, I've had a few cars since my RS4.

Will check that out, think it's on the right in the Avant. Need to sort the leaking sunroof as well, if that's where the water is coming from

Right hand side, behind the removable trim cover.
The connector is at the top of the amp, might be worth checking for dampness as Mike says.

Re: Screeching and static from speakers
I had exactly the same issue a few years back. I swapped out the head unit to the later 2010 version but the noise continued! It was worth doing anyway for the bigger capacity SD cards.
Turned out it was the Bose subwoofer/amp assembly in the boot.
Swapping that out fixed the issue.
Take care not to trap the emergency fuel filler flap release cable when you put the amp back in.
