Replacement oil cooler time
Replacement oil cooler time
Hi all, I've had a leaky oil cooler diagnosed. Been quoted around £1000 for the audi model + £200+ for all the pipes etc. Has anyone had an alternative fitted ? Forge rad-tec? I'd be really interested in your comments to help me decide which route to go down.

Re: Replacement oil cooler time
ive the rad-tec one does what its ment to oil goes to the same temps but does cool down faster
Re: Replacement oil cooler time
I had mine replaced by Blackburn Audi....I think it was £1400 all in. Cools very well. Lower oil temps compared to the one they replaced, which was the original one.....
Re: Replacement oil cooler time
I guess the only problem with OEM is that the cause of the issue still exists. I know one of my old B7's has had two in its life.
Not sure if the placement of aftermarket coolers eradicates the issue, so that's worth looking into.

Re: Replacement oil cooler time
That's the best way really. I sold one of my old coolers for someone to get re threaded so there are much cheaper options like this available of course.
Re: Replacement oil cooler time
I'm not fussed about lower/quicker cooling capability as my car is just a road driver
Not keen on £1400 for the audi unit though, especially as it's been identified as problematic with leaks etc. My tech is giving me the old cooler back with a view to repair and re-sell as a way of keeping cost down. I've seen the full Forge kit around £870 is the rad tec unit around the same all in cost?

Re: Replacement oil cooler time
I'm pretty sure Unit 20 don't charge that much. I seem to recall when having mine done it was about 750 plus fitting for oem parts.

Re: Replacement oil cooler time
I went for the Forge kit, renewing the factory parts will corrode in the same way as it's due to the dissimilar materials. Only true fix is to remove it all and replace it with something else.
Re: Replacement oil cooler time
Happy with the Forge unit? Any issues ? Seem to be just under £900 all in, is that about what you got it for ?

Re: Replacement oil cooler time
I went for a replacement OEM cooler and JHM pipes (from the States) to prevent the galvanic corrosion problem that plagues the Audi cooler and pipes.
Misano Red B7 RS4 Avant. 20" Rotors. KW adjustable spring kit. 8 & 10mm H&R spacers. MRC Stage 2 remap. Pre-cat delete & x-pipe.
Re: Replacement oil cooler time
Yeah very happy with it, well made kit. No issues, well thought out kit and excellent service from Revolution. I got it for a little under retail as they were doing a deal on it.
Re: Replacement oil cooler time
Doesn't the Forge kit create a whiring sort of noise increasing with revs that sits a little behind the engine noise?
Re: Replacement oil cooler time
I've heard that it does but I believe that it's down to the hard plastic spacer used between the lines and the chassis leg (the factory lines use a rubber spacer). I didn't use the spacer instead I routed the lines not to pass through the hole in the chassis leg. I was able to do this as I have a cold air feed and no aux radiator on that side.
Re: Replacement oil cooler time
Interesting. So no noises as a result? Do I destine the perceived noise correctly? I've heard it mentioned like this, but also a vibration and only at 2k rpm rather than through the rev range, which would, I assume sound different.
