That would be great dougie.

Really keen to hear how those straight pipes sound through the rev range, right up to the limiter.

Any thoughts on how you position the x-pipe for maximum effect?
I would have to dig it out of the text books but there is an equation that can be used to calculate correct overall length of the exhaust. I can't remeber if an equation exists to calculate the correct position for blending the gases. I think trial and error would be the only way of getting it just right.

Where abouts are you?

So an update:

The x-pipe which should have been fitted weeks ago only went onto the car the day before the Wales trip. The place I'm using has been very slow to get the pipework manufactured etc etc, and even with a picture and specific requirements, the x pipe was not as I wanted it. Unfortunately, the overall diameter of the pipe at the joint has been reduced too much for my liking - and the result has been a quieter exhaust than I wanted. A new pipe is going to be made with me present to get it all sorted, frustrating but hey, this is cutting edge science at work.

Interestingly, when I reviewed my Wales trip footage the exhaust note is actually quite different than it was in the garage. It actually sounds quite good, but it could definitely be louder. The straight through will be going back on next week so will record externally with that for comparison. I prefer the external comparison as the garage videos give false acoustics (due to being inside).

Hey mate - considered one of these, and then you can have full control of the valves...e.g. Having them fully open or closed regardless of revs or mode

I'll be in NY first week of Aug if you want me to bring it back?

So I've completely lost patience with my exhaust fabricator. Utterly useless, despite plenty of opportunities to do what he'd promised.

I'm not giving up though, so does anyone know any reputable exhaust fabricators near(ish) Twickenham?

are you going for power or sound or both, x pipe wants to be closest to the downpipes as possible , 2.75 inch bore too for maximum flow and optimal power , unless your just going for sound then the best ive heard is no pre cats and centre box delete, go on audizine i looked into this forever and thse boys have been messing about with these for a long time and have tried pretty much everything

Just going for the sound, and thought it would be fun to compare the common options.

Great video, as always. And that exhaust sounds superb.

My question is, how much benefit to you really get from this mod, compared to just using the S button?

Gotcha.

So it becomes really apparent when you have a monstrously loud exhaust that the S button doesn't give you enough control over the valves! It doesn't come across in the vids, but there's a huge difference in volume with valves open and closed.

So, if you have passengers, or it's late at night, you want the valves closed. So without the remote, that means leaving the car in normal mode, which is annoying - the car has a MRC map, so I like driving it in sport mode. With the remote, I can be in sport, with the valves closed. It's also useful on the motorway, or whenever you might want to drive briskly without drawing too much attention.

The other way round, when you feel like going (as R Kelly might put it) "half on an ASBO", the sport mode only opens the valves above 4K revs on gears 1-3...which can be annoying as you get an abrupt change in exhaust note as you come up to 4K revs....foot planted --> nothing, nothing, nothing, PWwWWAaaAaArRrRrPPP!!!!!! With the remote, I can have the valves fully open, for the full ASBO experience, and get the low down "burbly"/Barry White gargling end of the exhausts's vocal range as well as the stabbed Celine Dion side of the range.

So you see - it's awesome.
