I went for straight pipes because I was keen to keep the V8 burble. Others who have had an x-pipe say it retains the burble but I was not going to take any chances (the Quicksilver system had one).

The car now has a lovely deep engine note under load in a high gear, sounds epic further up the rev range and pops and crackles on the over run once the cats get hot after a good back road blast.

If you disconnect the vacuum pipes the valves are always open which makes cold starts a delight :-)

Think straight pipes are cheaper as well.

They are sprung open. You need vacuum from the engine to close them. So if you disconnect the vacuum hose there is no vacuum to close them and the springs holds them open. Assuming they are not jammed closed that is.

I think cross pipe makes F all difference for power which is the point of having it. For noise I'd be surprised if there is a great deal of difference but somebody already said earlier it makes it more raspy.
cheers Mike

Just remove the centre silencers and replace with straight pipes for around £200.
Where can I get this done? Mrc? Jcweldfab? Etc etc.?

Are exhaust installer/center can do it and should't cost over £200. I used one of the chain companies and they did an ok job of it. Can't remember the name but I can check tonight if no one else beats me to it...

Here they are, I lose track of the UK workshops - https://www.longlife.co.uk/Longlife-Watford

Like I said, not the best engineers but they get the job done. Make sure they adjust the level of the back boxes/tips before they weld, mine are sitting slightly lower since having the work done...

Cheers for that... I contacted my local exhaust fabricators (not anyone that's been mentioned here) and they've quoted me £650 + VAT and they need the car for 2 days..

Seems a bit excessive

They have either misunderstood what you are asking or are on drugs! I've had whole exhaust made up at one of these places several times and it takes about 4 or 5 hours (single branch exhaust though). To cut out 2 bits of pipe and weld 2 straight bits of pipes in it's place is a simple job.
Did they get underneath and look at exactly what needs to be cut out?

Cheers Mike,

I didn't think it was me going crazy. I'll send him a reply email explaining his mistake.. He says he's done this conversion before quite a few times..!! ??

Or just buy this and as them to cut your stock exhaust to fit it.
