MOT Concern

Post by daytonamart » Fri Jan 06, 2017 9:40 pm

So my car is due an MOT and I phone Ipswich Audi to book in.

Service lady says "no problem, but as we are a new site we can't do MOT's yet we'll need to take it off site"

I'm thinking, you've got no chance of me letting your apprentice tech rag my car to the test centre to get this done.

I say don't worry I'll drive it to the test place myself, they agree and tell me where it is. Now I've got no experience of said garage but looking at their website and Google maps it looks a bit back street.

The only thing keeping me with Audi is the MOT protection. Should I be worried or am I being overly cautious?

Not sure what to do, the garage are called DD Autoserv Ipswich.

MOT is an MOT, the testers are qualified, checked and follow a standard process with standard equipment. Often in fairly "understated" premises; why worry?

I'd be very worried, they're sub-contracting out the work and I bet if you wanted to claim on the MOT protection at a later date, they'd say it was done outside of the network. So no thanks.

Take it to another dealer.

I took my F-TYPE for its first MOT to a dealer 50 miles away as they did the MOT themselves as opposed to subletting it...otherwise you may as well take it to kwik fit, which I what could have done 500yards from my home

As long as the Audi dealer do the paperwork for the guarantee, who cares who actually does the test? :bash:

Thanks chaps,

I can see both sides. Yes, they are sub contracting it but as HP says they're qualified and an MOT is an MOT.

I guess my main worry is what happens if something goes awry at the off site garage.

As far as the protection goes Ilya it covers you for £750 towards any repair should it fail the test.

Also, on reading up on the MOT protection it is only offered on cars under 10 years old so this is the last year it can be used and if needed.

I would certainly feel more comfortable if it was on Audi's premises should something happen.

Still unsure.

As long they are happy for you to take the car to the garage yourself, there should be no issue.
You will still get an Audi receipt for paperwork purposes.

Before Solihull Porsche moved to their new site, they used a local garage for MOTs and I took my car straight there. The chaps at the garage were quite happy to let me watch them undertake the MOT. I've had this on BMWs previously aswell.

So I cancelled the MOT with the "arches" garage and have booked it into Bury St. Edmunds Audi on the 26th Jan.

Ipswich service poor, couldn't care less, Bury super helpful/enthusiastic.

Shame as they are the same dealer group.

Audi mot protection is worthless imo. My mot failed over a year ago as the horn didnt work correctly. They said the mot protection didnt cover wear and tear!!! What else would cause a failure?!!! Meh, as said before it doesnt cover a 10yo car so doesnt matter anymore.

Agreed, it was in the small print that the horn was covered, i fought them over it but aberdeen audi wouldnt give in. Told them this would be the last time my car would be here, take it to an indy now.
