Parking dent at work - now sacked

Post by Covkiller » Fri Nov 25, 2016 7:20 pm

I received a nasty parking dent on my near side rear passenger door in the works car park on Tuesday.

I calmly confronted the chap in the van parked 8" away from me who most definitely did it. He said it wasn't him, I said its a good job that we're at work or I may have had to knock your head off.

To cut a long storey short, a little while later I calmed down and apologised, he accepted we shook hands and took it no further, but his manager put in a formal complaint to HR and I was sacked over it today.

I'm not bothered as I love my car and would confront anyone who damaged it. I'm a lot happier now as my mate came round and removed the dent completely. It took him the best part of an hour.

Surely that's not grounds for dismissal as it's his word against yours!?

I'd get yourself down to CAB and as someone else said it's your word against his. I'd be telling them he was arrogant and verbal abusive first.FFS What's this Fcuking world turning into when 2 big man can't have a ding dong without HR sticking their fat noses in it.

Well I'm a contractor with no employment rights whatsoever and they didn't even ask me for my side of the storey.
I really don't give fcuk as I know I'll get another job soon. It just goes to show what this world is coming to, as Eddie says, two men can't even have an exchange of words.

To me it sounds like there's more going on there, what was your relationship with them like before this. Are they using this as a convenient excuse to get shot of you?

Agree with the others, don't put up with being treated like crap, I'd be certain they're operating against a policy somewhere and whilst it's not a big thing for you the next guy they shaft might be relying on that income to feed a family.

Good to hear your friend pulled the dent out for you.

Very bad behaviour from employer to end your contract, hope you find something else quickly.
Good luck

I think weve all experienced the phenomenon of parking miles away from anyone then finding every parks next to you when you come back. I read somewhere that people like to park next to the nice cars because they know the owners will be careful and not bash their doors.

Ive had my RS4 B5 damaged at work and my S3, grinder sparks over the back of the RS and big scratch down the side of the S3. Both sorted through their insurance as one was a contractor and the other was a work mate, both honest guys. The problem is people just see cars as modes of getting from A to B and don't really give a <beep>. Also they see a 06 car and think its 2k's worth. The look on the guys face when i told him my Y reg Audi estate was worth around £16k was really funny, i even had to pull some up on the net to prove it :bash:
