If payment was made within the last 30 days, I believe you can contact your bank and request for a charge back or something like that iirc.

With a private sale, I honestly don't see how you think you could get your deposit back. What if you were the seller, you'd held the car telling others it's sold, only for the buyer to pull out? Would you hand the deposit back?

In the past, I've been stupid enough not to take a deposit and lost sales when someone's pulled out, that's selling privately for you. Just be glad you haven't bought a lemon!
previous- Pug 205 gti, 306 gti, 309 gti Goodwood.
Audi S3, S4 V8 avant.
Porsche Macan Turbo.
Gone but NEVER forgotten - C5 RS6 Misano red avant.

Now - Empty garage

If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there!

I'm not trying to get the money back, I've repeatedly said that I'd rather be £200 down than have this lemon and that I can't be arsed with the hassle of even trying to get it back?

To be clear:-
1. The seller requested a £200 to end the auction early which he then didn't do;
2. It was his idea for me to call Audi which I did and they couldn't back up his story. I gave him
The benefit of the doubt and said I was still interested if he could sort out the 'misunderstanding' which he point blank refused to do and HE SAID he rather give me my deposit back but then back tracked later on
3. I paid a deposit for a car that he doesn't have (FASH etc.) which private or not is false advertising

Either way, I can't be arsed and he can keep the £200 to spent on crack and maccy d's
