Cheap tyres

Just thought I'd share this.

On Saturday I had an argument with a pothole. I lost.
With a hole in the tyre the size of a 50p, a crying 1 year old and a moaning misses I had little choice but to accept whatever tyres I the mobile company had, so I got a Pirelli rosso (I think that's what it is), anyway, all in I shelled out £210 inc mobile fitting, but I was in no place to negotiate.

Anyway, just getting one fitted on the other side at kwik fit, £131 all in.

So unhappy that I now had different on the front than the rears but I'm sure I'll get over it. The only upside is they were close to being replaced anyway, the rears are a month old, that would have upset me.

Shame you had to go for a Pirelli, I had PZero Rosso's on my RS4 from the factory and absolutely hated them - poor dry grip and appalling wet grip but at least they only lasted 9000 miles so I was able to get some decent rubber on quickly.

Like many on here my tyre of choice is the Michelin Pilot Super Sport - but that's being phased out in favour of the Pilot Sport 4.

Stick the one kwikfit removed from your car in the shed. That way, if you ever have similar happen again, you have a useable correct size tyre you can stick on the car immediately. You can then buy a matching pair without the panic!

I could have done me you a deal on a full set of four brand new MPSS (upsized 275 width, suitable for B7 RS4). Still can if you want a matching set.

Brexit's affect on the exchange rate is also forcing tyre prices up.

Stick the one kwikfit removed from your car in the shed. That way, if you ever have similar happen again, you have a useable correct size tyre you can stick on the car immediately. You can then buy a matching pair without the panic!

I wish I had read that earlier, that's a bloody good idea.

Got caught out last year on the M20 with a puncher on new (40 miles) MPSS that I got from tyre leader, the savings I made soon got lost getting Audi assist take me to Mr Clutch and charging me £280 for a replacement.

i find the tyres with the very best grip are too noisy and harsh for road use
with a medium quality tyre like eagles etc the audi has all the grip you need on the road-if in need of more you are going too fast for uk roads

Eagle F1s are not medium quality tyres, they are the best you can get along with the michelins (michelins slightly better by most peoples opinion). They are head and shoulders above the next best (medium quiality) tyre.

If the tyre noise is too much your exhaust and stereo are too quiet.

sorry folks got eagle f1 on my own car,and would consider them mid,perhaps slightly above half way tyres-there are more expensive,sticky rubber out there,but i find them harsh-i"m around 50 and done my time with r888,ad08 pss[evos,m3s,etc] etc but these[imho] are best for you chaps who like to drive at the ring etc
i only use my car on the road[resonated milltec] and seldom use the car to its potential

Yes there may be more sticky tyres out there but that doesnt make them better quality than the F1s. The AD08r and R888 will boh lose out to the F1 on a cold or wet day. So in the UK I'd say the F1 is a better quality tyre. And on a heavy car such as the RS4 they will wear quickly. So outright dry grip maybe, but not for general uk road use.
