Sods law strikes again! DRC replacement time!
Re: Sods law strikes again! DRC replacement time!
That's the thing. I reckon the others are probably near the end as well. Car has done 83K.
Id love to do the quick fix thing to shift it on, but i couldn't sell a car knowing there were issues, or that there might be problems that arise for the new owner. Wouldn't like it done to me so wouldn't do it to anyone else.
Plus my new RS3 isn't coming until mid next year so if i don't get any interest in it i will be keeping it until next year, so don't want to leave myself any problems for the near future. Its a cost i really could do without, but its a necessity and the car is now not roadworthy.

yeah, ive always had cash waiting for the coilovers and knew it would go at some point, and ive not changed it because the kw adjustable springs and drc setup was awesome, my car has been off the road about 2 weeks now

Yeah that's what i mean. Its always a worry in the back of your mind that it might go at some point. Now it has its a chance to get rid of the suspension and the worry.
Mine was off the road for 5 weeks earlier this year when i was doing the brakes. Now its off the road again, god knows when it will be back on the road. Saves me putting any miles on it though!!

The DRC is fantastic when fully working thats why i kept it when my flexi went and i have kw adjustables on aswell.

Yep, my DRC went recently. At around 90k miles. KWv3s going in.
I got a mate with a hoist in his garage at home, so will have a go at fitting them myself.
Anyone know a link to a good .pdf anywhere on the web with step by steps?
Looking at it, rears look relatively easy, right front has the ecu over top of strut, is it easy enough and safe to unplug ecu?
Any help appreciated

If I were in the market for a B7 I'd not buy a car with coilovers. The DRC is exceptional. I think changing to coilovers is a mistake personally. Fix the DRC and give the new owner an unmodified car. If something fails in their ownership, then they bought into that knowing of the issues these cars have.
Playing devils advocate - I presume your oil cooler is fine? What are you going to do when one month into ownership the new owner contacts you to say the oil cooler has failed? You'll not be refunding him the repair price I presume. I also presume you're not going to replace the cooler and pipes as a preventative measure? Where do you stop trying to 'look after' the new owner?

Agree, the DRC is a nice ride, but prone to failure in early B7s. I just want a sound setup that is reliable. I dont have an issue with the next owner, as I'm not planning on selling the car anytime soon. Oil cooler and pipes were last years expense.

MY DRC failed twice in 2 months , first a shocker then it was a steel pipe over the fuel tank so i chose Bilstein PSS9 coilovers , better than KW 3 as they are real easy to adjust (you cannot adjust the rear rebound on the KW without removing the shocker ) and are much stronger built with big monotube dampers , get what you pay for or what your budget limit is
Phantom black saloon ,PES M112 Supercharged 520ps/595nm K&N filter, 100 cell milltek cats, res valved milltek system. 8 and 10mm H&R spacers.H&R roll bars, "smoke chrome " alloy refurb. JHM Quickshifter, Bilstein B16 coilovers , uprated diff mount ,50/50 devils own WM kit so 1.4 litres/min in intake approx 10% more power and torque
