smell of petrol when getting in car?

Post by jamiedal » Thu May 07, 2015 9:26 am

Good morning everyone.

Just had a phone call off the wife when she got in the car this morning, she said for the last 2 days when she's got in in the morning there is a strong smell of petrol

Does anyone no the first things to check or a possible cause ?

Thanks

Check under the rs carbon cover on the engine see if there is any leaks there if not i woild say its one of the injector rails, i had the same problem an the weld had started to leak on the rail.
Think someone else on here has had the same to.
Stick your nose through the gaps on the inlet manifold see if you smell any.

Run the car for a short while, the turn it off, and have a listen around the manifold for a hiss.

The solid fuel lines run under the inlet manifold and they can start to leak under pressure from the crappy fuel rail unions

Maybe the fuel filter?

I'm sure RossDagley had a fuel smell issue with his B7. Could be worth a PM to him.

I had the same problem before and there were smoke sometimes that came out from the bonnet which i can't locate it. One day I was cleaning the engine bay and spotted the puddle of fuel sitting on the engine cover. The FSI fuel pump was leaking the same as this one:

Easy fix, $$$ on parts...

Well the car now has a full tank of fuel in it and I can't smell petrol at all anymore when I first get in, don't have a clue why but I'm happy
