Newbie introduction and some question already...

Post by dillonc » Tue Mar 10, 2015 4:31 pm

Hello there!

Have been a lurker for a while on this great site!
It is just wonderful to see so many RS4 owners sharing very helpful info in this forum!

Here are couple pictures of my previous and current rides.

2007 Daytona Grey RS4 Sedan (Canadian Spec, shipped back to Taiwan in 2011, sold in 2014...)
Mods:
Euro steering wheel, 19" BBS CH-R in satin black, blacked out grille and window trim, Bilstein PSS9,
Milltek non-resonated valved catback exhaust, custom 200 cell cat.

Really loved the car, the 6-speed manual, NA V8, AWD, and the sexy wide body.
So here comes the 2nd one...

2007 Sprint Blue RS4 Avant (Euro spec, acquired in 2014)
Mods:
Retrofit R8 front ceramic brake, rear Brembo 4-pot and 380 disc, KW V3 Clubsport, 20" OEM RS4 style rims,
custom suede bucket seats, Milltek non-resonated valved full exhaust (Soon to be MTM full exhaust),
and list shall go on...

As for the question...
Is it necessary to re-code through VCDS after ceramic installation on B7?
Also, lately, I had a possible source for C7 RS6's rear ceramic brake which would be great to retrofit on the car.
But it seems like the centre bore size is different and the E-brake is also an issue too!?
Anyone has experience on retrofitting the rear ceramic setup?
It would be great if there's any information on this.

Thanks a lot guys and hopefully I can share something in the future to contribute to this big family.
And sorry for the long post...Cheers!

There is a little coding required for retrofitting Ceramics which I've carried out with VCDS, below are my notes from the process:

03 ABS Module
Steel = 0004533
Ceramic = 0004534

15 Airbag Module
Go to Adaptation - 10
Select from the dropdown - ESP Data (Brake) channel 51
Steel = 22
Ceramic = 20

Rear Ceramic conversion.jpg
I have seen the above picture of a rear ceramic conversion only once and do not know where it came from. I'd imagine that it required a large custom made mounting solution for both rear calliper and R8 hand brake calliper - like what can be found in this french forum thread below:

I'd probably just paint your current 2 piston Brembo rear calliper to match the Ceramic colour and leave it as that. Nice looking car :thumbs:

Nice car and mods. You got more photos of the interior please? Looks likemyoumhave a blue suede edge to the seats.

Did you do the brake conversion yourself? I'd be interested to hear more as I see quite a few R8 ceramics for sale and not many B7 ones.

Thanks for the kind words!
The seats are one of the reasons that pushed the switch from Daytona to Sprint...

Wow!!! Thanks a lot for the great info, Surrey Sam!!
I will try on the coding through VCDS.

As for the rear brake, I was kind of hoping to have minor modifications if possible.
The rear caliper is actually now painted to match the ceramic colour as you mentioned.
Let's see if there's anything my tech can come up with and hopefully I can share some info on that rear! :audibash:

Thanks for the compliments!
The other interior shots currently in hand are the ones Surrey Sam posted lol.
It has blue suede edges and blue carbon wrapped on the back covers.

As for the R8 brake, just like the link from docurley.
We will need an additional 2mm clearance for the disc.
I actually used R8 hub combining with original RS4 bearing for the clearance instead of the spacer/adaptor.
Other than that, it is a direct bolt-on for rest of the stuff.
Hope this would help! I still have those part no. if need them too!

I think that's exactly the ones I have on the car now.
It will fit, just need a slightly modification or spacer/adaptor on the existing hub.
