Black optics pack.. Wrap??
I really want my window surrounds and front grille in black. Hence the title.
Just curious as to whether anybody has had their's wrapped instead of removing all the parts and painting them, which i know is a big job as a friend of mine has just done it!

Re: Black optics pack.. Wrap??
I changed my front grille for a proper blakc optic one but many on here have wrapped them.
I've wrapped my window surround though as I intended for 3 years to do them properly but never got round to it. I actually ended up wrapping them myself. Wasn't too hard, but I did mess up a couple of times so I'm not 100% happy with it, but it loos so much better than before any anythign more than a couple of feet away it looks like the proper black surrounds.

Re: Black optics pack.. Wrap??
plastidipped my rings and grille. Will get round to doing the window trims at some point.
I was dubious about the plastidip longevity but it's done 6k+ miles now through summer and winter, including several trackdays and autobahn "vmax" runs and is still fairing well. And if it looks ropey, it's only an hour to replace
Very happy with it.

Re: Black optics pack.. Wrap??
Yep, my window/door trim was wrapped in matt black by local pro. Took him an afternoon I think.
I did the grill in gloss black, took me an evening (bumper off job to do it properly). Probably not worth it in hindsight, could have just bought a new black optic grille for the hassle.
All faired very well so far.

Re: Black optics pack.. Wrap??
Im thinking of doing mine as well,I reckon wrapping is the easiest & probably cheapest way to go.
Im thinking of doing the door mirrors as well.....what do you think?

RS4 mirrors almost impossible to wrap. The joint is hollow rather than solid so where do you put the joins. Mirrors are easy to paint tbh.obikaii wrote:Im thinking of doing mine as well,I reckon wrapping is the easiest & probably cheapest way to go.

Re: Black optics pack.. Wrap??
If you take the window surrounds off then there is no point wrapping them as the black surround doesn't cost a great deal, it's the labour that adds up; it's a pain cos you need to remove the rear window and have it bonded back in.
Re: Black optics pack.. Wrap??
Full black wrap at the dealership was nearly £1100 at my local dealer.
Re: Black optics pack.. Wrap??
Be warned on the clutch switches; there was nothing wrong with either of mine but i'd thought I'd change them out as a bit of routine maintenance. The upper one was a doddle. However, the lower one proved ot be a pain for me. I couldn't twist the new one into the holder and felt like it broke when I pressed the clutch pedal as I don't think it had twisted enough (which I suspected). I put the old one back in but now that was broke too so I ended up with no lower clutch switch. I ordered another one from the same place (Stoke Audi) and had the same issue. This time I was even more careful with it so as not to break it but it still didn't feel right (didn't push the plunger in but could feel there was resistance). So I took the switch with me when the car had a service and asked Audi to fit it but they said it was broken. So I'm not sure if I'm just a numpty or if I've had 2 defective switches. So I have no lower clutch switch still, and there was nothing wrong to start with.obikaii wrote:Thanks Tony,I'll either leave them or paint then.TonyHayers wrote:RS4 mirrors almost impossible to wrap. Re: Black optics pack.. Wrap??
For a wrap? That's about the cost of Audi changing the surrounds for proper black ones!Noyjatat wrote:Full black wrap at the dealership was nearly £1100 at my local dealer.
