Got to be gang related you'd hope, if that's how they're gonna start pilfering our motors then we're all doomed :)

Possible hi-jacking? A stark reminder that a car is replaceable and human life isn't. Someone wants my car bad enough that their prepared to use weapons, then they can have it!!!

The old Kent Road is such a busy road even late at night that it is not surprising a moped could keep up or that anybody trying to speed away will end up crashing; there's people everywhere, lots of buses and lots of traffic islands.

Such a sad story but sounds to me like they were after the person in the car rather than trying to hijack the actual car.

I wouldn't get out. In the scenario you just described, if they're going to shoot me they're going to shoot me. If they're not going to shoot me they're not going to shoot me. My actions have nothing to do with it. But if they're going to beat the living daylights out of me, a means of escape will help reduce the chance of the happening. So I'd stay in the car and drive away.

...and p.s. I also don't think this incident has anything to do with the car. Pure speculation by me of course, which perhaps isn't nice when a man's dead.
