Taking the rough with the smooth!

Post by E14STO » Sun Dec 07, 2014 12:35 am

Well in past few months I've had a bit of a downer downer on the RS...
Whilst it still awesome to look at , sounds flippin' amazing and goes well - it's not been without issue and I kept this over the B5 as that was starting to cost...

It's in the garage currently so Not had a bill for latest fix but had a few unexpected ones in recent months.
Car went in for a re-gas. Turned out air condensor has a massive hole in the housing. So new condensor required. I did it, kinda wish I hadn't as I hardly use it but I guess I will be thankful for the 1 or 2 weeks next summer!

Had 3 new 034 arms on in last 3-4 months.latest one this weekend.

Last few weeks noticed A horrid knocking at front of engine - suspected supercharger bearing failure. Rang few places including TTS - that will be 2k plus for the part and fitting at Indy. Out of warranty having been on the car >2yrs.
Possibly 25-30k on it I think.
Gutted

Bit of "luck" - Turns out once stripped down it was the drivers pulley bearing that was worn. TTS did advise this was more likely as they have experienced more of this issue than actual charger problems.
Apparently this has been replaced and she is quiet as a mouse. whilst there it's had a service - supercharger oil ain't cheap per litre!! Jesus!

Anyway - missis was pleased -Xmas not cancelled after all!

Although it needs a new battery as well (not holding charge) that's her boots froing back ;-)

Looking forward to picking her up on Monday and enjoying it again!

Worth trying Puredrive for a battery, they were a lot cheaper than the local battery distributors and motor factors when I was looking a couple of months ago (and I wouldn't touch a Halfrauds own brand battery with a barge pole) http://www.puredrivebatteries.co.uk/car-batteries

Nice one. It's an S4 that's on. I used euro parts for my last one.. About 80 quid.

OEM Audi battery is manufactured by Varta, their equivalent model is the Silver Dynamic 610 402 092.

I think that I got mine from Amazon for about £95, if I remember correctly.

Always used a sock S4's and S5's for my replacement batteries and could never fault em. Can get them at a decent price (c.£80) shopping around too.

It sucks about the problems, but it happens and you'll be used to that with your B5 I suppose. Hopefully this will mean some trouble free ownership for a while.

Yeah it's cost of ownership I guess.
Air con was biggest kick in teeth. 60quid re-gas turns into a 800 quid bill.

Sold B5 for what I paid for it after 2years. 3.5k maintenance though.

Glad charger is ok though. Still not overly impressed with the current failure but at least parts are a tenth of expected layout!

Might be able to concentrate on getting these 20's on now and maybe to MRC for LC etc :-)
