"TPMS" message in DIS

Post by steveyb » Fri Oct 31, 2014 1:46 pm

I get a TPMS message in the DIS after driving for about 15 mins. I have reset the pressures using the "Store Pressure" and "Wheel Change" options and the display goes out, only to reappear in another 15-20 mins or on my next journey.

I had my wheels refurbed recently and all has been fine for a couple of months so I doubt if this caused the issue, maybe just a coincidence.

Antenna issue maybe, I'm not sure what error that throws up, I tried searching for 'TPMS' error messages displayed in the DIS but never read anything about anyone having the letters come up in the display like this :?
Any of you chaps have an idea what it may be?

could be the tpms batteries are on their way out... They are only really designed to last 4 years.

Makes sense I suppose, just not heard anyone else mention the yellow text coming up in the DIS.

I should have taken the opportunity to swap out the sensors when I had the wheels done and new rubber fitted, don't fancy taking them all off again just for the sake of this. As you say, I'll just disable it until I need new tyres again and then take the opportunity of fitting new sensors.

Have you got VCDS? that will give you more info and, yeah, you could just disable it if you can't be bothered getting them replaced.

It would appear that the valve sensors themselves are pretty resilient. The kwalitee mechanic who worked on mine before I bought it had *gaffer taped* one of mine to the inside of the wheel. Of course, it didn't stay there for long and spend 500 miles rattling and banging around at slow speeds.

Yes I have VCDS. It's not that I'm not bothered, I would like to have them working, but I don't want to risk any damage to my newly refurbed wheels. Maybe I'll do it after my first puncture or curbing of a wheel, it's sure to happen some time in the near future :)

I use 2 sets of wheels and to not have to hustle with TPMS disabled it with VCDS. I do check the tyre pressure time to time.
