Piggie Pipes (...what is this?????)

Post by nikkak77 » Thu Aug 14, 2014 6:03 pm

Guys,

While the car was in the workshop for teh clutch issue, I had asked them to keep on the stock cat back and remove the pre-cats.

The guys there once they removed the exhaust system, instead of coming across the standard "ceramic" materail, came across the below metallic stuff inside.

Since I am the 2nd owner of the car and due to that I cannot locate the previous owner who had claimed that the car was entirely stock, do you know what it is we are looking at?

Just noticed that i failed to describe it correctly.

Instead of finding inside after the mesh on the pics the honeycomb material, we found sth like a metallic precat.

Have you ever seen sth like that?

The RS4 uses a metal cat in the pre cat. So you won't find the normal ceramic honey comb material.
To remove I used a drill to help break it up and then pulled out in bits.

They're basically metallic race cats. Unlike almost any other audi I've seen before

I always thought - by mistake obviously - they had the honeycomb material.

I removed them and the strange thing is that i have not a CEL light.
I have driven it for a couple of days now in mostly small distances but no light at all.

I have neither added spacers on the O2 sensors nor moved them further apart.

Shouldn't have produced the warning light?

It will come don't worry. Can take 100 miles.

You probably already have fault codes... Maybe have a look?
