Sorry... Tyres! Need them.

Hi guys. I know this is a question that gets asked a fair bit but I just can't find anything exactly like my needs.

I'm looking for a summer tyre, best grip and low noise ideally, don't care about wear rate or cost, and not that bothered by wet grip especially.

Ideally something I can use on road and for the occasional track day. Something "like" a 048 or 888 tyre?

Any suggestions?

Any of the top brands will be fine, michelin, goodyear or continental ect are all good tyres and will perform in a similar way from my experience. A guy posted a couple of weeks back on here about a fantastic price on goodyears from an online company, about £136 each i think.
If you want low noise dont buy r888's or similar, road noise is terrible with any or the semi slick type tyres

AFAIK, there isn't any 888' or 048' made in the 19" size we need at the required load rating.

The only option you have is something along the lines of a Pirelli Corsa Trufeos
They are available in a near size:

Without being critical, out of interest, how much experience on semi slick tyres do you have?

I used to run 888's for about 6 years or so on my 400bhp peugeot 106 (195/50/15 medium compound) as a road tyre I could drive to an event, use, and drive home on so I've some experience of them, but no experience on the audi. This is my first tyre change on the 4 so just want something I can really hammer and use basically!

It's currently on conti's and they're a bit... Meh.

The problem you have is that the pug compared to the audi is very very very light and it won't overheat the tyres.

You can run 888's on the audi (sonny used to lots) but you'll need 18" wheels to fit them.
It is fine but they will be more "event" tyres than "daily drivers" - yes you'll be able to drive there, run about and then drive back but then you probably won't have lots left for a daily run.
4wd will also kill all 4 tyres together.

Factor in the extra wear n tear on the suspension and personally I would be in two minds as to the extra benefit. My advice would be to get something like the good year F1 asymmetric 2 as they are a stunning tyre - a whole new world above the conti's in my view.

One final thinf to consider with semi slicks - 255 is very wide for a semi slick and whilst you mention not bothered about wet weather it really wouldn't take much to aquaplane with such a wide tyre.

The PSS can be had for £656 for a full set delivered from lovetyres.com so I'm drawn towards these - they get some amazing reviews. Do you have any opinions on these?

only a 92 speed rating... I'd be a little concerned as the oem are 96 (IIRC).
It's the biggest problem with track tyres - they are generally for smaller, lighter cars that don't need reinforced tyres

I'm sure they'll do a Pilot Cup in our sizes and speed rating. Great tyres too.

I want to get Pilot Super Sports next, there weren't any available at short notice when I was buying last year so went with GY Eagle Assyms. They're a great tyre, but quite loud and the wider 'shoulder' means the rub where the Michelins won't.
