Make sure she's behind the fence then reverse right over the top of her, put the old bat out of her misery

I think your neighbours approach was all wrong, if you have been parking there in the same place and reversing in

She could have had a chat and all perhaps could have been resolved

If you give in now, who knows what's next;

Could you start your car up between these hours

Could you push your car off and on the drive when you leave and arrive

Dont like the colour Red, why didn't you get one if those black van looking versions

Dont put your radio on whilst on the drive

Well how about ***k **f, put your sports button on at all times on the drive, all windows open with your best music playing full blast, and show her how the 4 wheel drive system works, bet she wished she had kept her mouth shut!

It's not just the fumes she doesn't like, it'll be the noise too. From your photo it looks like she lives only a few meters away. I wouldn't be surprised if she went the fumes route because she feared there wasn't anything she could do about the noise coming from your car.

Why not be a little more considerate and park nose in? Whether she's crackers or not, it's nice to be nice.

Thanks for the sound advice guys :beerchug: :thumb:
I also came to some scenarios with driving front first:- if my house goes on fire, grab what I can (mainly phone and car keys) jump in the car and drive off to a safe location, if I'm in front first it'll take me that much longer to manoeuvre and get the car pointing towards the exit of the drive.

When the winter comes in, if I'm front first and I need a jump it's going to be extremely difficult to do.

I think I've came to a conclusion that I might drive in front first a couple of times a day but reverse in on my last journey of the day. I don't want to do it all the time or she'll be thinking she's one up and could start her cr.ap about anything!!

But I have the trump card though. If she start nagging again about reversing and getting "ill" I can always ask her to tell her son to change his exhaust to a quieter one as it's stopping me from sleeping haha.

Can't see how she can stop you to be honest but it's never nice having moody neighbours. Do you start the car and leave it running, or do you just get in and drive off?
I let the fast idle finish until it's back to normal idle then drive off.
I bet it's the noise that's really a concern to her. Ask her how it is making her ill. I don't mean in an accusing tone, etc but more concerned. If she really wanted to take it further on those grounds surely she would need to specify and prove the ill health is a direct result of your car being parked there.

I would drive straight off as others have mentioned. I'd tell her that you are prepared to compromise and will drive straight off rather than let it idle. Ask her if there had ever suffered any problems before you had this car. If she says no, say you can't see why this could be any different as all cars are regulated for emissions. If she says there have been problems in the past ask her why she hasn't mentioned before.

Ask all the questions in a polite concerned way but assertively when stating facts about your car, etc. You want her to really agree that it can't be your car that is causing it, but if she simply doesn't like your car then she may be stubborn and become defensive. You could then end it by reiterating that you will drive straight off and suggest reviewing if the situation is any better after a while.

The bit about emissions etc will only be viable if your car is stock or at least still has all the cats.

Yeah I agree, I'm willing to compromise by driving off as soon as I start, I'm not a fan of this as the fast idle/warm up is there for a reason but I know it's the 1500rpm start that's pushing the fumes towards yer garden etc.
I'm still going to go down the route of title deeds (which I'm doing tomorrow) and citizens advice.....just incase she comes away with "I'm going to talk to my solicitor blah blah BS"
As said before I'm willing to drive in head first to keep the peace but by all means I won't be making a habit of it

My 2p worth .... I would just politely say 'OK' and continue as normal - only if you receive regular complaints and then formal complaint letters would I go down the legal route - it's really not worth it and could get expensive - even after going legal it would go to arbitration. How about you rotate your parking every now and then - that way you can give her a little bit of slack and because it's summer - [everyone has windows/back doors open ETC]

Noting that your are in Scotland, but here is a thought...

in England, the Highway Code/law states that vehicles shouldn't reverse from a minor to a major highway. https://www.gov.uk/using-the-road-159-t ... 200-to-203

So many Britons 'break the law' each day unknowingly by reversing out of their drive onto a highway (a minor to major reversing manoeuvre).

On the assumption that you are currently reversing from the road to the final parking place then you are doing your best to comply with the highway code and be a good citizen!
