car lifts
Re: car lifts
Might make it hard to do work under the car though wouldn't it?
How much space do you have? Why not a 4 post (or two post if you have strong enough footings)

Re: car lifts
I don't know much about these but I certainly wouldn't like to get underneath something like that! just does not look sturdy or stable enough.

Re: car lifts
At a garage I used to work in we had a lifting trolley. You could wheel it around like a trolley jack, push it under the car from the side then lift the car up above yourself and then push it around. Was bloody brilliant especially as the yard was quite small so came in handy quite a lot.

Re: car lifts
This sorts of lifts have always scared me. Maybe if you were working on an old mini or a smart I might be ok with it, other wise no thanks.
I think you will like it here, quite a friendly group

Re: car lifts
Ive not alot of room for any other kind of lifts, either 2 or 4 post lifts and the mobile one which looks very good is very expensive.
This company and others like it, seem to have sold hundreds of these lifts and they have locking devices which should stop them from falling down.
My first impressions was of, they do look unsafe, but after looking at a few ytube vids etc, i thought they looked quite good, but the general consensious looks quite negitive,
The jury is still out with me, "thinks" more research is needed.

Re: car lifts
Have you considered a "half-lift" (my terminology)?
It just lifts half of the car (front or rear) up to a couple of feet. Plenty of room to work under it.
I'll try to find some photos and edit this post.
But it kind of looks like a big C-shape (two on top of each other) and the top one lifts up.

I've finally got my head together but now my body is falling apart!
Re: car lifts
If you just need access then these are good
http://www.raceramps.com/portable-pit-stop-ramp.aspx
you set it up, drive on and then take everything away bar the small sections supporting the wheels.
These are also good
http://www.restorationramps.co.uk/phdi/ ... ent&part=3
The advantage of these is that you get a cross member with twin jacks to further support the car.
Granted, not cheap but I just prefer ramps to lifts
