Track Stories/Woes.. Share.. Now Added Pics
Did an evening at Brands Hatch tonight.. Trip says i covered about 65 track miles, avergaed 9.2mpg and a bit over 1/2 tank over 3 runs.. All good fun, had a bit of rain and got black flagged for being a hooligan..
So driving home when under full lock i now hear a clicking/popping from left wheel area when turning right, turning left get the same thing from right wheel but not as bad.. Also hear the noise under moderate/hard braking.. Still trying to diagnose through elimination but it's proving hard with a tired head.. The obvious first thought is outer CV joints but i find it hard to believe i've knackered two CV joints and the fact that it happens under braking too is strange, I'm hoping it may be heat related.
Other than that though car was real good.. no brake fade with the Ferrodo DS2500s.. Slightly long pedal at around 30min on track but with OEM fluid so not suprised.. I find it a little boring and unplayful when you're on the limit mid-corner to be honest though.
Anyone else have any stories mechanical or otherwise of their track experiences?

Yes exactly thatJaheenormous wrote:The wheel fell off.. Heat cycling got to the wheel nuts? Hahah do elaborate..
Had put Ferodo pads and updated fluid so they got proper hot, melted the brake calliper paint!
Like a fool I didn't tighten my nuts!
Lesson learnt

Just added a couple of pics!
Wha the <beep> t happened to the clutch? Looks like a fair bit of build up on the pressure plate too?! Too many launches? Lol
Also i got to the bottom of the sound i was hearing.. The track was wet for some of the evening.. Moisture and heat on the discs caused them to oxidise fairly quickly.. I'm guessing when they were cooling in the pits and the car was stationary.. Basically increased the thickness of the lip on the edge of the fairly worn disc.. Filed that off and problem gone so it was obviously catching on something i couldn't see.. Peace of mind restored and £1000s still in my bank.. Lol

About lap 30. Melbourne hairpin, accelerating out, went for the shift, pedal went to the floor and did not come back! Needed tyres disks and pads shortly afterwards! Had a race instructor on board, did 5 lap stints, 1 out, 3 hot, 1 cooling brakes. Worth every penny
