Parking sensors

Post by B3NEJ » Mon Aug 22, 2011 9:17 am

Just wondered if anyone has had any issues with them? only had my car a week and they get a bit confussed sometimes. they have worked a few times but most of the times its give false measurements and even thinks i am about 2 inches away when really there is nothing at all around the car.
my car is under warrenty but just wondered if anyone has experianced issues like this and is there anything i can try (like a simple fix?)

many thanks

Hi there i,m getting issues with the rears on mine it seems to be the rear right inner one giving false readings, the led comes on in the switch and it chimes constantly sometimes ,i havnt had the VCDS on yet tho , but when manually checking it its verry erratic on the right rear inner sensor , then sometimes its ok , i,m planning on getting it done under warranty when i get back home.

Parking sensors

Yip. Mine went wonky recently then self healed. Almors suggested pulling the fuse to see if it resets.

My sensors see objects that aren't there on the first drive after a wash. Fixed instantly by getting out and wiping over each of the sensors when the parking assist is still on. Doesn't happen again.

oh quite common then.... very odd, just went out and tested each one (a few times) and... they all work fine! you can even hear each one pulse when you put your ear to it.
does anyone know if pulling out the fuse helps? or is it just a bit of a red herring?

I have had a similar issue with my sensors in the front and I found that my reg plate came undone and was sitting about 1/2" forward. So the sensor right next to the plate was giving the alarm. Didn't know that they were that sensitive.

Re-seating the fuses does work. Mine went a bit funny a couple of years ago and I reset the reversing lights and fuse for the sensors and all started working again.

I remember reading Evo's long term test and they had the same experience with the number plate.

This morning i pulled out the No.17 fuse for a few mins and then re-seated, works perfectly now (fingers crossed).

It can also just be dirt or polish... I polished my car once and had left a very small white scuff from the polish on the once sensor, you had to look very closely to see if there was even a scuff... but I wiped it off and all was good again :-)

When i bought my RS4 last month found it had faulty parking senosers - had then checked and found the two passanger side sensors were faulty - having them replaced under warranty - not cheap.

£220 for the sensors - plus what ever it takes to fit them.

Seems strange that so many RS4 have the faults - had my S4 for over 5 years with no issues at all

ive just checked mine with VCDS and it came up code 01547 rear mid right sensor no signal comms , so i,ll have a look underneath tomorrow and see if a wires damaged or somethin, might save me driving 40 odd miles to get it checked by audi , then having to go back again to get it fitted because 1 they wont have one in stock and 2 it will need painted .

plug your car into VCDS and see if there are any errors, otherwise your parking control module might be blown
