It is pretty quiet up at Glentress at night but the next time I am out I will have a good look around!

Ah, the days of walking to the local Esso garage at night to buy a copy of Fiesta discreetly placed under Gardeners World so the old woman behind you would not tut in disgust.

Not that it ever worked though, the cashier always made a show of getting the barcode to scan the git.

Youth of today don't know how good they have it with the internet!

Anyway, glad they have equal rights down your way, the gays are entitled to a bit of outdoor/backdoor action as well, just keep your head down and look at the front wheel.....

And hope you don't have to stop and fix a puncture!

Both issues would deeply trouble me but more so because I only sold my comfort seats 6 months ago!

So, getting back on topic it is not the single mass flywheel causing the starting issues then?

I wonder if the new master cylinder is aligned correctly so that it is contacting the clutch switch when fully depressed?

Am I wrong in thinking that the point of a lightened flywheel is to reduce the effort needed by the motor to build revs (since there is less weight to rotate) therefor making the motor rev more freely, with the possible downside being that revs drop faster too? (ie. losing speed faster) Thinking logically, I cannot see why would a lightened flywheel would cause any problems elsewhere. Perhaps the design of the engine relies on the fact that there is a certain amount of weight related resistance to balance the nature of the engines components? Thoughts?

Mak.
Yes that is why lwfw is great. Faster revs and effectively freeing up horsepower

No there is not balance needed (in the way you mentioned it) ...it is internally balanced at the crank for one, and for two, the r8 4.2 uses a lwfw with this engine's non fraternal twin

Most oems avoid lwfw due to drivability issues (quicker falling revs mean it is a little different but not much) and in a four door avant or limo it can be something some people don't like. On a sports car like the r8 it is a small sacrifice for some performance gain and sporting feel. Well worth it. Enthusiasts love them though and I can't imagine too many non enthusiasts bought the rs4 so I think quattro goofed in not giving us one

R8 gearbox location also means transmission noise won't be intrusive.

Jamie. Do you have the part number of the correct clutch switch that audi sent you?

I bought both switches a while back after having a starting issue where the car would not recognise that the clutch pedal was depressed. I changed only the lower one. However, last week I discovered that the cruise control was not working so changed out the other (upper) switch. Cruise control now works but almost immediately the EPC light came on and I get the following fault code which is new since changing the switch.

005924 - Starter Interlock Signal
P1724 - 001 - Short to Ground
Freeze Frame:
Fault Status: 01100001
Fault Priority: 0
Fault Frequency: 1
Reset counter: 255
Mileage: 185462 km
Time Indication: 0

Freeze Frame:
RPM: 778 /min
Load: 20.4 %
Speed: 0.0 km/h
Temperature: 98.0°C
Temperature: 51.0°C
Absolute Pres.: 1000.0 mbar
Voltage: 13.208 V
