Trups LED numberplate lights - HERE!

Post by neilparf » Wed Apr 30, 2014 1:24 pm

I ordered my LED interior and exterior light kit from Trups before I even purchased my RS4 - a first class mod and should be on everyone's list!

Trups had a wait to get the rear numberplate LED's finalised - in typical Trups fashion he wanted it spot on. Mine arrived today and well, well worth the wait - very nicely engineered and two new lens screws too!

There's a sea of CANbus error free Ebay versions that simply aren't, but these work a treat.

Is that a filament lamp on the back of the bulb?

Yes - very small incandescent to mop up the voltage I suspect. I've seen stuff from ebay that has a massive heat sink to mop the voltage up I suspect, but they don't work...

Do you have some coming Mike?

Sorry, bloody phone was playing up on the train and my message didn't get posted in the end.

It said:

No, I've had some replacement units (ie the whole fitting not just the lamp) for a few years and have had no trouble with them. I tried the LED lamps before and they were no good.
The reason I ask is that I'm surprised Trups went for a lamp as a false load instead of a resister as the lamp has a much shorter life than a resister. I'm sure he considered this though hence why I'm asking why he went for a lamp.

PS when I was changing my ones in the dark I dropped the little screw onto my gravel drive... took me days to find it again. Not easy just get a replacement so those new ones Trups supplies are really useful. And if you don't use a short screwdriver the original ones will be knackered very quickly from trying to turn it from the wrong angle.

iSheep phone!

I saw those whole replacement units, but I was committed to Trups version and much like his DRL with false load attached I think it'll work just fine. I know he changed the configuration slightly to improve so hence the delay.

Yes - those BAS***D screws are a mare. I have a gravel drive and very nearly dropped them. The ones coming out were wrecked...

I've no doubt they will work, just wondered why he chose that method. I have his DRL solution too, I gave up trying loads of different so called 'canbus error free' bulbs after about the 4th or 5th set.

And no not an iPoo, I am an Android man. It wasn't the phone as such, but it wouldn't load the page when I hit submit so had to keep pressing the back button and trying again, and that was the end result.
