Another stolen RS4

Post by V8mark » Mon Mar 03, 2014 9:50 pm

its interesting to read the posts above and the differing opinions only go to show that we don't really know what is going through the heads of these scumbags.... there must be some way to stop them...surely? Its not helped that plod doesn't have the resource to do much about it (IMHO).... I'm sure if there was a hard price to pay it would deter some of the to$$ers......maybe.....?

what we actually need is a dog, used to have a big German Shepard, old softie, but we didn't have any security issues..... that's the answer !!

Guttered for anyone that has gone through this......

No way. I use to watch that as a kid. See, the plod still haven't figured out the mystery of the frozen Lamb...

And that's where the saying comes from "casing the Joint"

If a thieving scumbag broke into your house when you were out he/she would search for any valuables and if he could not find anything worth while, he would box your frozen leg and take that!

Mine is in a locked/alarmed garage at rear of my house I have had the alarm upgraded (seat theft concern ) additional immobiliser, tracker what more can you do ? as for leaving the keys on show what about a dummy key from fleabay surely they would not return once the scumbags realised they couldn't get the car hopefully they would piss off.

Really not a good idea to declare how you secure your car, where it's located and where you keep you keys on a public forum

I'd also suggest reviewing the euro style locks you have in the property.
I saw a news piece on "snapping" and "bumping" euro locks and it was frankly quite scary.
snapping is just taking advantage of the fact that both sides of the lock barrel are joined by a thin piece of metal (the rest is the rotating catch that operates the lock mechanism on the door). If you hit the lock hard enough it can snap at this point and you simply pull out half the lock barrel and flick the door open with a screwdriver.
Bumping is just putting something thin into the locks and pushing all the pins up and turning the lock.

I upgraded all mine to Avocet ABS locks as these can't be snapped or bumped.
They have a deliberate weak point ahead of the main weak part and the snapped lock will break here and prevent access to the mechanism. They have magnetic pins that need to be pulled down in addition to normal pins that get pushed so you can't simply bump the lock open.
When my new locks arrived I had a go at snapping and bumping just to see how it's done. My first go at snapping took all of 13 seconds.

I get the logic of leaving the keys downstairs. Sure don't want an intruder coming upstairs.

But I'm not sure I agree with posting on the Internet that you do. Have you ever sold a part and posted an email address that an be used to track back to your house? Have you ever posted a photo or exhaust video of your car revealing number plate or location? Ever commented on a classified ad asking about shipping to a particular village or postal code?

If yes to any of these I would suggest editing your post(s). Basically saying to the thieves "my rs4 is easy to steal, and here's where it is"

As for security I have to imagine a good sized dog helps. Even if your dog is a coward they don't know that. Even if they do and your dog is a good size he will make a bunch of noise greeting them and asking to be clapped. So all in all I have to think a thief who does a little homework must think "let's skip the place with big German Shepherd and go to the place without one. You know, the guy who posted his address on rs246 and says he leaves the keys in an easy spot"

Sounds like excellent advice to me...

The truth is if someone wants to get in your house they will, and if someone wants your car bad enough they will get it.

As we heard a short while ago on 246 a guy lost his pride and joy at knife point, and another they waited till the house was empty, smashed straight through the patio windows and searched for the keys, locks still in place.

Perhaps the best way is (but hassle) remove an item from the car...... Years ago for those that can remember we use to remove the rotor arm.

By that logic you may as well leave the key in the ignition and the car unlocked...
Yes you can't stop everybody and a determined person will always manage to get in - it's about putting off the 99% of others who are looking for an easy ride.

a simple switch on the starter button or clutch pedal would do it.

Thieving scumbags really boil my p!ss! A friend of mine races elise's, and had his unit broken into last year. Luckily the race cars weren't in there, but our bikes were. Scumbags must have thought it was christmas. 2 Fireblades, an R6, aCRF250 enduro (with road legal kit), car trailer, and a shed load of tools. And my boots :boohoo:

They left the Mk 4 Escort 1.6 :biggrin3:

B7's are now of a value that they are not worth risking armed robbery for. But they are not worth dieing for either.
