5w 30 is not good enough I'm told for an RS4 I use Edge 0w 40 shorter life for more urban driving
Modified standard exhaust Modified deflapped inlet manifold ported and polished
Head and valve decoke Performance K&N panel filter. Remapped. Lowered slightly (20mm) on KW performance springs Widened on 10mm spacers.

I use the Audi recommended Castrol Edge fully synthetic 0W-30 or 40 oil. I was told this was the spec off the last owner. Good news is ASDA sell it.
You get long life and short life oil type.
The long life is for lots of motorway driving, the short for around town. Last owner changed to short life when I got the car.

The last owner may be slightly miss-informed. I understand the long and short life (VW 502 and 504)

It's not about driving style per se, but more about the mileage.

Page 271 of the RS4 manual states:

VW 502 00 for fixed interval
VW 504 00 for long life

VW 502 00 for fixed interval
(Application area: Low viscosity oils for petrol engines and difficult operating conditions. Normal service intervals. Replaces VW 501 01 and VW 500 00.)

VW 504 00 for long life
(Application area: for all petrol engines with extended service intervals. Replaces VW 503 00 and 503 01.)

It's your choice, but Camberley, Audi and all dealers I'm sure recommend 5w 30. 3rd post down:

My dealer said they would only want to put in 5w 30. they suggested that I call Audi UK to ask what the acceptable oil is, so I did.
Audi UK said that they do not advise 5w 40, only 5w 30 for my car. as a result, they said to me that should something go wrong with the engine that the oil has something to do with , then any good will would be out of the window. They strongly advised that I use 5w 30 rs4 B7 specific oil only.

funny, 5w40 is standard RS4 oil here.

I believe some of the Audis showed 5w30 in 2004-2006 Audi S4 manuals, but that was changed to the 5w40 around 2007. Maybe the RS4 being split through those two periods is contributing to this. I have always used 5w40.

That's highly likely. UK Dealers stance now though is always 5w 30. My benchmark is what Audi UK advise. I'll notice no difference between the two, but if the advice is 5w 30 then should something let go in my bullet proof V8 then running the correct oil will put me in good stead with any goodwill from a dealer.

That's my thought process...

Yes it should be 5w 30. Did the dealer put something other than 5w 30 in then?
