Attempted seat theft: SW London
Hi guys
I've never posted on the site before and it's awful to have to do so like this. Woke to police shouting at and arresting a guy outside the house at 4am. Knock at the door to tell me the guy had broken into the car (black b7 avant) and he was head first through the driver's window when neighbours called the police. Alarm unit torn out and seat belt cut, which sounds a lot like the fella who had his seats stolen in Battersea posted on here.
Fortunately, my seats are still where they belong, though door and interior damage not yet properly assessed as it's still dark.
Turns out that the offender is from Battersea. If whoever that was can drop me a line (PM), the police said they'd see if they could make a connection and see that he does some more time.
Cheers
Matt

Re: Attempted seat theft: SW London
No doubt he is a well known scumbag to the police. Let's just hope as he was caught red handed something can be done with him.
Hope you get your damage sorted, keep us posted.
These scumbags really do need their hands cutting off or better still hanging.

Re: Attempted seat theft: SW London
Hopefully there is plenty of evidence at his house for all the previous thefts as there have been loads in SW london, and hopefully check his ebay account and then locked up for a long time. I bet he is let off lightly though and it is probably considered not very serious!
Re: Attempted seat theft: SW London
<beep> scumbag and hope there is not to much damage mate.
He will probably get a slap and suspended sentence, lets hope he walks down a Lloyds soon and get the <beep> kicked out of him.

You'll get the name and address in the prosecution documents when the case comes to court - No harm putting it up on here as you never know what might happenIan_C wrote:You owe your neighbours a beer!![]()

Re: Attempted seat theft: SW London
Update: the car is now with Audi and it's 'not the worst they've seen', the last one they saw had all the carpets and trim pulled out as the thieves looked for the tracker. I've 'just' got scratches on the door which look deep enough to need some correction, same on the driver's door card. Alarm unit reverse engineered all over the interior and some pretty deep cuts in the seats where the guy was faffing about sitting / leaning on broken bits of window. No word on cost to put it right yet.
Description was of a 6'8" offender climbing in and out of the window...lord knows how he did that, I can hardly get in when the door is open. I've given the officer the limited details of other events on here and I think he's got a big case file going now of these events in Greater London to see if there are any links.
Let's see if we can make a forum members jury? It's a public service you know.....

Re: Attempted seat theft: SW London
The audacity of scum like this is quite shocking, feel for you mate, good he was caught in the act though.

Re: Attempted seat theft: SW London
Hi sorry to hear that and glad they didn't take your seats and caught the #### I have pm'd you my contact details. It's just good news one of these guys is caught. I have spoken to two random people while at petrol stations coming up asking if its an RS4 and that their mate has RS4 seats in his golf or S3. Both times cringed knowing someone has had to suffer.
I got details from Ben and trying to go through customer service as now Audi will not allow me to buy their warranty as the car is cat d. I explained the situation and they were not having it so hopefully this new contact can do something. It's all these ripples after you have dealt with this that irritates.
At that height me must be skinny as ### to get in. Would I love to meet this guy

Re: Attempted seat theft: SW London
I know, was at a car show the other month & the number of cars running RS4 seats (mostly logoed !) suggests a lot end up in other models as well as making some comfort seated RS4s more attractive on the 2nd hand market.kd wrote:their mate has RS4 seats in his golf or S3. Does really need a campaign to data-tag all the seats, as if thefts get too ridiculous insurance premiums may end up putting off customers (just as happened to bikes some years ago).
Re: Attempted seat theft: SW London
Hi,
Any chance you could please give me the details via private massage of the arresting officer or a crime ref number, I'd like to put the police in touch with several other owners in sw London I have been in touch with so they can hopefully look into whether it was the same scum and build a stronger case?
I'd be happy to share my experience as I have now put a new alarm and welded my seats in. I also have some great mechanic contacts and upholsterer in the area.
Thanks
Ben

Re: Attempted seat theft: SW London
It's not fair to assume they're all obtained via illegal routes, there's plenty of RS4's written off in accidents or stripped out for racier/more comfortable seatsMB2 wrote:I know, was at a car show the other month & the number of cars running RS4 seats (mostly logoed !) suggests a lot end up in other models as well as making some comfort seated RS4s more attractive on the 2nd hand market.kd wrote:their mate has RS4 seats in his golf or S3.
