Emissions light has come on.

Post by Adamcell » Mon Nov 25, 2013 9:23 am

Morning all, yesterday the emissions light came on in the car and has stayed on since. The car seems to be running fine and the light is on constantly rather than flashing. My question is has anyone one had a similar problem and what was it caused by? Hopefully I will have time to get the car scanned today but until them any help would be appreciated. The car also has a Milltek fitted.
Cheers Adam

Someone else had this problem recently and there are so many things it could be that you are doing the best thing and getting it scanned. For my part, I had the light come on recently and it turned out to be sticky manifold flaps that was a good indicator of the need for a carbon clean. Sure enough it was filthy in there and the light/error was cleared up once the engine cleaned.

Hi and thanks for the reply. My car has already had the carbon clean done last year at mrc by the previous owner, so I can't imagine that much has built up already to bring the light up. Hopefully il get it scanned tonight.

Is this the first time its come on? Mine was intermittent and ended up being a dodgy flap on the manifold. A scan will shed more light on the problem.

Yes this is the first time it's come on but I've only had the car a week. I've just spoken to the garage where I got it from and they've said bring it up and they will get it sorted at the specialist they use.

I've also just recently got mine and the emissions light came on after a couple of journeys.

It turned out to be an intermittent fault on one of the post cat lambda sensors, getting it sorted soon (car also runs fine).

That's not to bad then hopefully it's something minor like this.

On the flip side, if it is the flaps get them whipped out. My cars a different beast now its had them removed and its a fraction of the cost of a new manifold. But fingers crossed its not that serious, if its a sensor then your only looking at a couple of hundred quid for parts and labour (unless Audi do it) :audibash:

No, I rung the garage where I got it from and they said drop it off tonight and they will get it sorted asap. Il get it scanned by a friend when I get it back just to check they have not just cleared the code. Hopefully I will know more as to why the light is on tomorrow when the garage rings me and il update.

Well the garage they use has had my car since Tuesday and still no joy as to why the light has come on. They said they can't find anything wrong with the car at all but the light is still on and their software needs updating to turn the light off. I also forgot to say my car has a full Milltek fitted with sports cats so I'm starting to think this could be why the light is on. On the other hand the car was day at the forecourt for over 6 weeks until I bought it and since I've had it I haven't really used it on a long journey and the car hasn't had chance to get up to temperature so I'm also thinking it could just need a good run. Il probably pick the car up tonight anyway and get it scanned myself. If anyone could shed some light on the full Milltek or not giving the car a good run may bring the light on that would be great. Cheers Adam

I had exactly the same issue with my RS4 Adamcell this week. Previously my B7 S4 had the same issue and it was the ignition coil pack which Perth Audi replaced FOC as this had been subject to a recall. On speaking to Perth Audi about my RS4 they said this light covers about 20 issues, so they took it in 2 days ago and found no fault, just reset the light FOC and all good. The guy I spoke to said it was ok to run the car while the light was orange but if it changed to red to stop driving the car.

Thanks for that maizyboy. I spoke to audi yesterday and they said the same and if it was a more serious problem the car would go in to safe mode and not let you go above 50mph with limited rpm. Il go and get the car tonight and then the light switched off at the weekend and see how I get on and update the thread.

Well just picked the car up and drove home. I thought I would have a look at my exhaust and try the sport button and the flaps are not opening. So I'm guessing there is a vacuum leak somewhere. Would this be the reason why the emissions light is on? Thanks.
