New member and FB steering wheels!

Post by neilparf » Thu Oct 24, 2013 3:19 pm

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to say as a new registered member and a 'on the brink of acquiring a 07 B7 RS4' how fanatic this website and indeed everyone's contributions have been in aiding and informing me making the right decision regarding an RS4 - brilliant.

I have plans for LED DRL's and rear LED's - I guess 'Trups' is the chap for this.

However. I have one pressing question regarding steering wheels. The car I'm looking to acquire has the 3 spoke A4 sport steering wheel with multifunction controls for the bluetooth centre armrest fitted phone adapter as standard. If I was to find one (which is another matter all together) does anyone have any experience about switching the above steering wheel to the Flat Bottom RS4 wheel and indeed if that is possible and indeed any pitfalls i.e. does the 'S' button still work/is the wiring/harness configured in a way to accept a simple changeover. I can pose this to decent Audi service desk, but really wanted to know if anyone out there has done this or thinks it's possible.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers.

Neil.

I would also like to know if this can be done and by who. I am in the same boat as you neil, looking at a car that is minus the flat bottom steering wheel and would like to retro fit. Audi's position is that they will not authorise a retro fit steering wheel of any kind, it can be done but not at an audi dealer.

I think you can use the TTRS one.... I'm sure someone more knowledgable will be along to verify :biggrin3:

The TTRS wheel is the way to go if you have the MFSW (multifunction wheel). Its just about plug and play although there is a small modification necessary to the airbag wiring harness. I ran into this problem the first time I tried to install my TTRS wheel. I contacted HazzyDayz and Gareth supplied me with the modified harness. If I recall correctly, the difference was the airbag wiring connector shape and the newer airbags (round shape) use two ground connections instead of one.

The job itself is not difficult once you have the correct parts and the correct tools. It's a great mod although a little expensive. All wheel functions work as normal and the sport button stays where it is on the dashboard. Ask away if you have questions, it's all fresh in my memory - for now.

Hi Guys - thanks so much for the feedback. After much searching I've located a RS4 with FBSW - albeit I can see not as good as the TTRS wheel, I think I'm sorted. Cheers.
