Audi RS4 Test Drive

Post by sk1808 » Wed Oct 16, 2013 5:18 am

The rs4 saloon I drove has 55k on the clock and is built 2007 being sold by a private dealer

The first shift I did into 1st refused to go into gear. The salesman just said let go of the clutch and try again

So I tried again and didn't go again. He then said your pushing the gear to far over and just needs a little bit. When I did this (only moved gearstick a bit over and up for first) it went in gear no problem.

On getting the car checked I was warned also about "knocking" from the gearbox

Is this anything to be concerned about

1 person told me to stay away the gearbox is on its way out but maybe I'm looking to much into it

Any thoughts?

Thanks
S

Ps: as I put down my deposit, the dealer told me last buyer of the car was put off the car from the gearbox decide not to buy it and lost his deposit.

Run Forrest run

Hate to be harsh but unless this is your first car or you've never used a manual gear box this is NOT normal behaviour.

This ain't gonna end well... Sorry!

I also have this problem with mine now an then only with 1st, an i have heard an read that it could be down to a faulty engine mount.
Had the car pluged in at my local audi/vw specialist and a engine mount fault poped up. Not had it changed yet tho so cant say what or how to fix as yet.

I had an active engine mount replaced last year as it was throwing up error codes. The car was slightly easier to drive at low speed afterwards but in my case, it made zero difference to the gear change quality.

i would also walk away - could be big bills in the future.

As for losing your deposit, were you made away at time of putting it down that it was non refundable ? also was the issue with the gearbox declosed, onbasis the dealer clearly knew about it as they had already lost one customer from it.
