Annoying Brake pad warning light! Arrgh!!

Post by Anees » Mon Sep 16, 2013 11:35 am

Hi guys,
When I bought my car it needed new brake pads. I bought some Ferodo Premier Pads (with the sensors) and fitted them. Issue I have is the brake pad warning (yellow symbol) did not go off.

I thought I would deal with this when I have more time so have been driving around with the warning on for a few months. About a month ago I was at my mates garage and he had a little time so he removed the pad sensors and joined the pins together so as to complete the circuit so the warning should go off. This worked and the car said OK! Dropped the car down off the ramp, parked outside and when I jumped into the car about an hour later the warning was back again! Grr!!

A month has passed since and yesterday when I started the car, the warning suddenly disappeared and came up with OK! I was surprised! Turned the car on and off a few times and it still came up as OK. I thought maybe the car has to be driven a few miles before the warning goes off?

This morning however, the warning came back on!! It is annoying me now and was wondering if there was a simple solution?

I read that the warning can be because the brake fluid is low, but it is full. To take this out of the equation, we disconnected the sensor under the brake fluid reservoir and started the car car – this time “BRAKES” with a red symbol came up so the sensor is working and the amber brakes warning came back on when reconnected.

Car is going in next week to have my suspension overhaul done so I was thinking it might be a good idea to bleed the brakes – apparently the fluid should be changed every two years and I am not sure when it was last done. Could this finally solve it?

Any ideas?

Can it be coded out used Vagcom?

Thanks
Anees

im sure these can not be coded out using Vagcom.

its nothing to do with your brake fluid like you say you get the red BRAKES warning on your DIS for that, changing the fluid whilst a good idea anyway wont cure the yellow brake pad light.

the fault is in the wires, somewhere there is a brake in the circuit. i had the same issue when i put ds2500's in, i bridged the connectors with a bit of wire but the yellow light would go on and off intermittently.
so i got a mate who works for vw to cut me off an old set of wear sensor wires off some old pads that he had changed, i soldered the ends that were cut off from the pad together and then plugged the connectors together and tie wrapped them up out off the way, problem solved.

Not unless everyone's missed it for several years, no - much like the bulb failure warnings can't be switched off, which LED bulb users would love to be able to do!

Car now says OK again!! I hate intermittent faults!

Thanks for the suggestion Sar - good idea and will give it a go if I can get some old pads connector wires.

Had the same with my beak pads after they were fitted. They were worse when wet and mostly intermittent with the yellow fault which did get annoying! To avoid fully stripping and cleaning all the brakes I tried the aggressive bedding in process seen documented by Audi. When hot the light would go off and after 6 weeks heavy driving the light has gone out. Finally.

Hole you get it sorted one way or another.
