Thought a quick review of the viper alarm would help. I had my seats and stearing wheel stolen, it's a colossal pain in the arse not to get car written off by insurance co.

Alarm is really good basic cost is £550 fitted and I paid an extra £50 for window sensors. It arms indrpendent of the Audi system and they work in tandem.

Currently if you get up close and look through either front windows it beeps loudly 5 times and if you don't step back the alarm (which is much louder) goes off. Hit the car and the alarm goes off.

When the alarm goes off the key fob also makes a noise so provided you are within a kilometre of you car you know it's your car alarm.

Given the hassle I've been through in my opinion it's an absolute must to upgrade the alarm, the Audi one is rubbish and easy to disable.

I've also had the seat bolts spot welded so it will take an angle grinder / workshop getting then out.

Also considering a visual deterrent of a bike lock though the shoulder strap holes.

Thanks Ben for the review.

What you went through sounds a very unpleasant experience one which I personally would want to avoid if I can.
I'll be getting the window sensors also as I think this option is a must. I'm considering using Loctite Red on the existing seat bolts as I never plan on removing them.

I'm glad you got it sorted in the end and your able to keep the car.

Cheers. I'm not an expert but the guys that pinched my seats were, consensus from the garage that sorted my car was that lock tight red would not be good enough. They have 3 other rs4's in the garage with same issue so im inclined to defer to their exoertise. The spot welds look really neat and the bolts were filled with resin.

I'm also having the supa glass fitted.

Overkill perhaps but I'm not going through this mess again, panicking about leaving my car on the street or letting the scum that did this win by compromising on comfort seats or selling car. I strongly advise others to upgrade the alarm to something that does the job and actually acts as a deterrent.

Anyone that wants to see alarm / welds etc welcome to have a look if in London.

Ps I'm still picking a fight with Audi uk and will update shortly.

Pps worth speaking to Anthony and seeing if he would count my car as one for the group but, it was your original suggestion that made me but the alarm in first place.

I am in what I hope is a lower risk area but have taken the following precautions - Loctite 270 which if applied correctly should need a blowtorch to get off - this has been applied to 3 out of the 4 seat bolts (ones can easily get a blow torch to) I degreased the bolts thoroughly so should be a good lock. Black silicone in the heads - this is more to stop the bolts being wrecked than an anti-theft measure. Personally I think this would probably be enough as bear in mind they will be working on a car with closed & locked doors.

However because I am in London a fair bit I am also having an alarm upgrade fitted which will be the Clifford 330X Canbus alarm - less all singing & dancing than the Viper install but 250 fitted, although probably a blue flashing LED on the dash would do the job.

Ben I quite understand your thourough approach and hope you have better luck with your new seats - it certainly sounds unlikely they will be stolen now.

I spoke to Anthony on email yesterday, he's been up to London to fit to 2 more rs4's that have had seats stolen.

So excluding forum cars that's at least 6 I have heard of.

I can only encourage people to do whatever they can to secure their cars.

The rs4 alarm is not fit for purpose any longer.

Yeah I spoke to him last week also and he mentioned this now seems to be prevalent. They're mainly after the bucket seats... Having mine fitted now as soon as he can do it!
