Post by dutchbarge » Fri Jun 14, 2013 8:45 pm

Bought My second B7 last year and warranty is at it end and its £1200 there abouts, does everybody think its worth taking out??? :?

Am thinking of not bothering that's all, but don't want to regret the decision, not had any bother in last year! just don't know, what's your thoughts??

All depends on age mileage etc, oil coolers done??? DRC ok??? S button inflate and hold seats??? Loads of questions mate.

It's your call but it's £100 a month and if anything does go wrong I reckon it will look after itself

I extended mine with the Audi assist for £800 ish comprehensive, mine only had 28k miles tho so price was decent.

Had all coils done under warranty, one side of DRC, a new air box, something with the steering pump, and some sensor I can't remember. It will go in for the other side of drc as well before warranty expires so it will have paid for itself.

Argument both ways but I like the peace of mind. Having said that I also have a rainy day fund which part pays the warranty and part pays for any non warranty/other expenses.

I think there will be more people say to save your cash, but I'd of had a hefty bill if I didn't have it so I was happy I did extend!

Defo depends on history etc. Certainly want to know whether drc was done. oil coolers not a warranty job as I've had mine done, but got a goodwill from Audi, whether the warranty helped on that I'm not sure.

on my last B7, warranty items were over £20k in the time I had it
You could cover that £1200 on a single DRC damper or diff replacement should the worst happen

DRC is £750 per corner from Audi without any goodwill. Check with Audi UK how many shocks have been replaced before you decide.

Firstly the car has only done 25,000, bought it last year with 13,000, (sold my last B7 to a forum member Yoda, missed it loads and bought another)
Eddypee that's interesting why your warranty was only £800, when ive been quoted £1200 (comprehensive 15,000 miles) and my mileage is lower??
Anyway, you say it will go in for the other side DRC doing before warranty runs out, surly you cannot tell them to do this work without there being a problem? I don't know??
I am concerned about the DRC as I do have a little knock over some bumps, but have had it into Audi (Leeds) and they say it is OK, also I had all this with the last RS but everybody on this forum seems to take it to places like unit 20 (which I was thinking of doing for them to check it out) they seem to repair it at reasonable costing?

Yes I understand if something major was to go wrong then it would pay for itself( like you say Graeme), but it only done 25,000 miles surly im good for a few years, but I just don't know :? :?

I suppose its the DRC whats the main concern, if other problems arose, like oil cooler pipes, airboxes, steering pumps im confident I can do repairs myself??

What is the percentage of forum members that have warranty??

I haven't bothered after the Audi one ran out. I insure as little as possible and am financially better off for it. It's saved me a few headaches too by avoiding having to wrangle with insurance companies. Instead of a policy, why not set up a regular payment to a savings account for a similar amount? All depends how confident you are in your purchase I suppose. Overall, owners lose money paying for warranties - although that should go without saying. The house always wins.

Leeds Audi are a joke, I don't think they even know what DRC is. They don't even have the VAG pressurising tool. Bradford Audi do, but you can read on here about my experience with them (ruined a filling pipe valve and left the central valves locked after pressurising).

My view on warranty at this age of car is to put your £1200 in the bank :)

It was 800-900, comprehensive, 15k, I can't remember exactly but Defo not 1200, mines a 07 saloon, I'd guess maybe yours could be a 06? Would seem odd to have that difference in the price. I could find the paperwork to be sure.

Re drc, camberley had it in for a service and advised both sides were leaking, audi only agreed to do one side at that time under warranty so ill put in before it expires and request the other is checked and hopefully it's sufficient this time to replace. Rob at camberleys a good guy and I felt was fighting my corner, depends I guess on how good your dealer is.

I budget £200 a month aside for bills on top, if I've not spent that then I'm happy to put towards keeping the warranty.

If your decent with your hands and can be bothered with the hassle of doing the work, sourcing parts and time off the road then maybe you can save yourself £1200, im useless so defiantly couldn't!

otherwise look at something like warranty direct of the telly, I seem to recall they were offering their ultimate warranty for £700 ish.

Tony, I've never been confident taking it into Audi for the DRC, I had a problem with Bradford Audi (they did fix the knocking in the end) but anyway, I think the only reason why id be taking the extra warranty is for the DRC, but what's the point when the Audi dealers around me hasn't got a clue how to repair them!!

Stu that's were I'm not confident in the car DRC, everything else on the car is good, It seems to be I think?

Probably not going to bother then, looks like I am gunna need to buy Vagcom! :kissmyrings: please be good to me!!

Eddy the cars a 57 plate saloon, I think you got a good deal at £800 thou

I took out the Audi extended warranty and it was about £1000 and so far hasn't covered or hasn't been worth claiming for any of the things I've paid for on car (and there has been a lot lol). There's a £250 excess on my policy so smaller items not worth the hassle of claiming for. I was told on renewal it wouldbe "significantly" cheaper so will see what I do come December this year.

Am determined to get something covered / claimed for before renewal time !

Obviously the best time to buy a warranty is the day before you need it?

The Mondial comprehensive warranty is expensive, and the standard warranty has too many exclusions - I'd put £100pcm in a "war chest" and spend it as & when necessary.

Perhaps I've been lucky, but I have spent £zero other than routine servicing and consumables such as tyres.

After my warranty expired, my DRC system failed, but Yeovil Audi were happy that the service history was kosher and the parts and labour were FOC :beerchug:

OP. as you're in West Yorks, I'd recommend York Audi. They replaced a damper under goodwill for me and I was pleased with their overall service. They were recommended to me by Nick (Klauster) who's now got an RS3.

WillRS that will be interesting to see if it is significantly cheaper, wouldn't hold your breath, but you never know!
Audi pardner and f@tboy, you do have a point, my 57 plate with full service history and 25,000 miles bought from Audi a year ago, I could have a argument and possibly get a goodwill, I wish!! Lol!

Not going to renew warranty been using this forum for 2 years now ( more viewing than speaking SORRY) but there seems to be a good set of lads that can help with any probs!!

But esp, carnt believe you've spent 7000 on repairs? What mileage is the car?
