hi all
I'm having some infuriating problems with my B7 RS4 Avant and Bluetooth - I have an HTC 8X phone which has decided to disconnect and reconnect about every minute (with accompanying loud BLEEP and "BT ON" / "BT OFF" on the display); I've tried deleting the pairing on the phone and re-establishing, I've had a dig around with VCDS and not spotted anything obviously awry. My wife's HTC Radar phone seems to work as expected on my car, and my 8X works seemingly fine on her (B8) S5... so it looks like a phone compatibility thing, though it was working OK for a while...
Does anyone have suggestions of what else to try? I've tried:
* deleting / repairing - no joy
* my phone works in S5
* wife's phone works in both S5 and RS4
* phone pairs OK with Bluetooth headsets / Navman satnav.
I'll see if I can persuade my network to replace the phone given that it was working and has now stopped...
cheers
Ewan

Re: Bluetooth disconnect issues
I had issues with a different phone and turning off the wifi seemed to help.
Normally these issues are caused because the device doesn't send the required "heartbeat" Bluetooth packet in time - phones are quite lethal for this as it obviously impact battery life so they often push it as far as they can. The Audi system in the RS4 does seem to be quite... aggressive... in it's disconnection process.
It'll either be a firmware upgrade for the Bluetooth stack in the device or the receiver in the car.

And as there's no know way to update the BT firmware in the car then your only hope is that there is a firmware upgrade available for the phone.adsgreen wrote:It'll either be a firmware upgrade for the Bluetooth stack in the device or the receiver in the car.
I had exactly the same problem with a Nokia N70 a few years ago - ended up changing to a different phone. Never had the problem with any other phone before or since.

Re: Bluetooth disconnect issues
Search the internet, there is a known problem with Windows 8 phones. When I bought mine I asked if it was backwards compatible and of course the answer was "yes" when the truth is "no". Rumour has it there will be a phone firmware upgrade but no sign of it yet.
Re: Bluetooth disconnect issues
I had this same problem with a Samsung Galaxy S2 a.k.a skyrocket a.k.a .727.
It was NEVER resolved. Actually it was eventually, that's a lie. I went swimming with my phone in my swimmies pocket, and killed the screen. This forced me to upgrade to a Samsung Note, and the Note worked perfectly.
Exact same symptoms as you. I tried all kinds of things...security settings...time out settings...etc. I started threads on every car and Android forum. Nothing worked.
Previously I had a similar issue with my blackberry Bold. I updated the phone's firmware and it solved the issue. As Dave mentioned above, it's the only solution that seems to help these communication issues.
Its very frustrating, and when I bought the S2 I was in love with the phone ,and it really bugged me that bluetooth was acting so erratically. On top of everything, the volume on my 'phone' (in the Audi's settings) is too damn high, so the connect / disconnect noise was ear piercing.
Anyone know how to adjust the volume range of the phone? I don't mean while it's on you turn the dial up and down. there's a setting that the dealer changed to increase it to solve an issue (lol I had static issues, and they thought increasing volume would nip it in the bud. Just made the static louder and the phone volume ear shattering if I'm not careful). I wonder if there is a way to change this range in Vagcom.

Re: Bluetooth disconnect issues
The fundamental problem is that Bluetooth is a self-certification standard - so if a phone manufacturer does some testing themselves and they reckon it's OK then they can say it's Bluetooth compliant.
But as there's no independent tests for inter-operability then issues like this WILL happen, no ifs buts or maybes.
