B7 RS4 Left healight out warning

Post by Orlando » Wed Apr 24, 2013 9:14 pm

OK...
The headlights go on normally and do their dance as always (up,down and to the sides). Still this warning comes on and stays on as long as the car is running. Can someone shed some light on possible solutions here, or at least a systematic approach to solving the problem short of taking the car to the dealership in St. Louis.
Thanks,
Orlando

I think the DRL is reported as main headlight bulb or something like that. The warning descriptions are not obvious. Check the sidelights, DRLs and main headlights. The front fogs are reported as such so it won't be those.

Hi

I'm having the same issue with mine left headlight warning comes on even tho the headlights are all working fine had it checked and they said that there is not the correct signal going to the computer from the leveller so it's showing up a fault
Cost to rectify is a new ballast which I was quoted £450 ish
Not had it replaced yet found some second hand ones on eBay original oem ones for around £60 gonna give it a try next week to see if it solves the problem

DRL is definitely reported as Headlight so check those first - can't remember the side-lights but have a feeling that is also classed as Headlight.

The sidelight has a confusing name too. Can't think what it is though.

First of all thank you all for your input...
I have had LED DRL's with the proper resistor in place (25w 10ohm) for about 6 months now. I will check the side lights and take out the LED and replace with original bulb to see if this works. I try these few thing and post my findings. Thanks again.

My money is on a failed resistor.

So...
Failed resistor was the culprit. (MikeFish you're 'da man)
Just happen to have a spare 3 Ohm 100 W wirewound resistor and to my surprise/delight it creates enough resistance to trick the computer. Thank you all again for your input.

Blimey, that's a bit of an overkill! That's equivalent to a 48W bulb...and the DRLs are only 21W bulbs, so you're taking twice the current you need to.

The 3 Ohm resistor is not enough... It makes the same warning blink from time to time. Just ordered 5 Ohm 50W resistors.

5 ohm resistors will take LESS current than a 3 ohm one, and make it MORE likely for the bulb out warning to appear :bash:

5 Ohm 50W wirewound resistor working perfect since installed 5/8/13. I will post here if it fails.
Thanks all for your input.
