145 Point Check - Brakes

Evening folks,

The brake pad warning light came on I my motor this morning which came as a bit of a surprise. I've only had the car 5 weeks and 1200 miles, bought from Edinburgh Audi and was wondering whether this should have been picked up during the cars inspection prior to going out the door?

I appreciate that pads are classed as consumables and therefore not covered under warranty but I would have hoped the remaining pad depth would have been checked, it's not as if I've been hammering the brakes since I got it.

The car has only done 30450 miles to date, 1200miles by me as I mentioned, last service before I got it was at 27k, surely pad depth would have been examined at this service?

How big a hit should I expect for Audi to Change the pads? The discs seem to have a bit of a lip on the front as well. :thumbsdown:

Yep, i think you should go back to the stealer. We've had our car 4 weeks RS4 Avant, one owner, 24k, FASH, sold to us pristine after their so called checks. 2 weeks after we got it, clutch began to fail, they replaced FOC, dropped the car back, following day bad oil leak from radiator, so they took it back and rectified that. So far saved us £3800.

You need to ask if the car was serviced would they be stating new brakes if you were going back out with so little wear left on them, madness, they're prepping is non existent. So far, a bitter experience purchase wise, the car, would't change it for the world, awesome.

Sounds like yet another two examples of how worthless "Approved Used Audi" status has been found to be by many people on here.

oh yes, and not to mention that from the day we deposited the car to purchase, to the weeks later in collecting it, it had accrued another 600 miles, so i wonder how the clutch damage came about eh?

Chris, go back to your dealer, explain the situation and calmly state you would like them to replace the brake pads FOC as although there is to strict hard and fast rule, clearly they were on their way out and either werent picked up on prep, or we deliberately left

you're dealer should sort it under good will.

if they wont, simply politely ask to speak with the dealer principal to express your dissapointment with your Audi Approved experience

take this approach and they will look after you

I believe the Audi Approved used scheme says that the discs and pads should have at least 70% on them. That certainly shouldn't equate to the short period of time you've had it.
Don't mess around with the sales guys though as all they can see is their sale commision dissapearing. Phone up and ask straight to speak to the dealer principle. Be firm but nice and I'm sure they'll sort you out.
Failing that, then I have made some good contacts in Audi Uk when going through similar issues with an 'approved used' RS4 avant recently, so I can PM them to you if you like ?

The wires can fail, which will trigger the sensor so may not necessarily be the pads themselves.

+1, I have had this happen and it wwas a simple case of ridding the electrical short in the wire.

If this is not the case then as Spagbol said.

Evening folks,

After much hounding, chasing, emailing, phonecalls and generally getting mighty p*ssed off Edinburgh Audi finally gave authorisation to Aberdeen Audi to replace my front discs and pads. :biggrin3:

Took a lot of effort to get there but happy with the end result. Big thanks to Iain at Aberdeen Audi for helping chase the final authorisation through from Edinburgh. :beerchug:

Alright folks, afraid i need to bring this thread back to life...

My car was in to Aberdeen Audi yesterday for its first service and MOT since i bought it, the car is now on 39k miles. The service report has stated that the front pads are 70% worn, i find this hard to believe as the car has only covered 7k miles in the 9 months since the discs and pads were replaced as discussed above.

Whats the average life expectancy of the genuine Audi pads? I dont think i drive in a fashion that would be hard on brakes, i tend to most of my slowing down through the gears. Any ideas what might cause accelerated wear?

Ive also got an advisory note on the service report of an oil leak from the timing chain cover, any ideas here?

The mechanic is due to give me a phone today to discuss, need to get these things sorted out as the warranty expires in 2 weeks time!

With regards to the discs & pads; it sounds like an attempt at Up selling to me.

Oh and with regards to the Audi approved 145 point check - Worth squat :evil:

This all sounds so very familiar - only difference is I'm on the other side of the world. Bought B7 RS4 in April 12 from a dealer 800km away sight unseen but with 2 year extended warranty. Drove down gave them my S4 late, dark, rainy and drove out in the RS4 complete with the 144 point safety check document. Stayed overnight and drove home next day. Got 600km along the way and oil light came on - not a problem, knew they could use oil so pulled in to nearest servo and put 1.5litres in. Next morning took it to my local Audi dealer (who I've known for 11 years of owning audis) and first thing he does is pick up undersized rotors and on inspection worn pads. Local dealer then arranged full replacement at sellers cost. But my car had only done 43,000km. Glad you got he brakes done. Now go to an independent Audi specialist and get a full report done checking the DRC, the gaskets, and everything else before your warranty runs out! Good luck. Graze

Panic over, just spoke to the service manager, apparently the lassie i spoke to last night got her wires crossed a bit, pads are actually 70% left on them, not 70% worn!

Still got to go in for this timing chain housing oil leak any ideas there?
