OK, move to new car with inheritance question?

Post by TimDogg » Sun Dec 16, 2012 9:52 pm

Right guys, let's be realistic here.

Let's say I have been given £10k inheritance, the RS4 is in storage (had a detail, new alloys and is A1 condition on a 06 plate) and is paid off (>£20k) and I can get another £10k finance............................... (£40k then - I'll do the math for you!)

What car would I step to now? Also, I'll budget £2k per year for service/mods.

Before everybody says a GTR - as much as I need this car in my life - I don't need the bills or the massive trawl for the exact spec. I don't need a rear-seat, however, it is useful and I am happy to step to turbos. I'm not a Porsche man and would like to rule that out entirely (C4S maybe).

The R8 has the same engine and costs 2.5 times as much so - NO.

The RS6 to me is like buying a yacht - I may as well set light to cash whilst smoking crack through a golden flute. That said, am I nudging on normally aspirated V10 territory with a first gen Gallardo? (Anyone have any knowledge - apart from 'they catch fire?')

So, do I go Noble, F360 - heart says hell no! (wait for F430 to come into price range hmmmm - but not the bills) - pimped up Exige for fun? Save the money and get a GT86 or BRZ (are they really over hyped or is the Monkey correct?) Aston Martin V8 (again - bills!) Focus RS (soft spot for Ford)

C-Type Jag (Proteus) - go all out and remortage the house and put the wife back on the street...OMG, makes me go shivery 'Mufasa! (shivers) Oooh...say it again. Mufasa, Mufasa, Mufasa!'

Caterham, Lexus IS-F ( :( ), North American muscle, Camaro, Mustang etc.

Interested in ideas - late night Sunday musings!

Well your RS 4 is in storage so you clearly don't need to spunk £20k away so dont

Sorry, sensible answer on a Sunday night

Invest the money and wait for B8 RS4s to fall into the price range :beerchug:

R8 is very different to the B7, don't be fooled into thinking otherwise

D_K - your sensibility disturbs but is welcome as always- I hoped you'd say that I needed a C-Type in my life.

Damnit.

This is very true - 200 odd kegs lighter an the engine shift (both back and lower) makes for a different exeriance. Might as well be a different engine.

Here's a couple of suggestions

every day car C63 AMG http://classifieds.pistonheads.com/clas ... -58/917717

Something a bit out there - Spectre R32 http://classifieds.pistonheads.com/clas ... her-models

If your starting to feel a bit old how about a Honda? http://classifieds.pistonheads.com/clas ... new/891364

American http://classifieds.pistonheads.com/clas ... 500/537470

Or why not stick a Supercharger on your RS4 and keep it :biggrin3: :blackrs4:

As for the original question... It's really hard without more info.
A us muscle car is very different to a caterham!

No rear seat, about 40k...
Do you want cheap running? Outright pace? Handling?

My feeling is that running cost are a big factor... 40k would get a very capable Elise/exige that cost peanuts to run. Fancy something a little less raw then the evora is a real joy to drive if not laugh out loud fast (supercharged one is fair pace though).
There's a good reason evo gave both the gtr and evora five stars in a shoot out test and said wanted both.

I would only go for the 3.2 nsx (obviously the nsx-r is ideal). The 3.0 is a great dive but quite slow

You're right ads but the truth is I'm not sure what I want but I think its more of a weekend drive than a daily which is why a Noble, Exige, GTR or muscle might be more favourable. The bill for a gearbox after 20k miles is not desirable which is maybe why a pimped Focus RS comes into light. There's so many GTRs out there I get confused about what I might need and I know that it's not a car that you leave sitting about for weeks on end.

No AMG - thanks G Mac :)
No supercharger
