Re: The story so far...
Lovely car Ben.
I currently have a stage 2 mk5 golf GTI which i will be putting back to standard to replace with a B7 RS4.
Love that colour. I also saw the one with the bucket seats in the first post and it really got me thinking about getting an rs4. Cant wait

Re: The story so far...
Cheers lads. Allways good to see others progress more people should get threads up it makes for an interesting read
I got them from DCPerformance.co.uk online they are R8 fitment they came back the cheepest. You will need to purchase 2 sets though as one box does 1 caliper a lot of people just advertise for 1 box not knowing you need 2. Your looking about £280ish off top of my head and yes they are the DS2500 going to see how they ware but after using them on a Type-R track toy and them being nearly dead after 2 open pitlane days at cadwell im starting to think i should of gone DS3000 due to the weight of the RS.

Thanks mate.E3ddw wrote:Loving the build so far. Keep up the good work!

Re: The story so far...
Looking good Ben.
The DS2500 are fine, iv done well 4 track days to a set, As above the 3000 will eat discs and destroy paintwork when bits come flying off.

Money can't buy you love, but it can buy you a well sorted racecar
Re: The story so far...
Cheers lads! well after a afternoon of fiddling the pads are fitted but the lines are another story. would like to say 1st impressions of the bite and performance is nothing short of amazing allready over standard Pagid pads i cant wait for them to bed in!!
Ok so how the day went...
took off calipers and drilled out all the clogged dust in the holes of my disks
before...

after...

Calipers off the pins knocked out nice and easy and the pistons pushed back nicely with the help of a peice of wood and a crow bar off the car with pads in place which was the first obstacle that went nice and easy

rears were all done and hoses fitted and got onto the fronts which didnt go as easy! first of all the standard hoses have a 90 bend in them where it meets the caliper so i though ok i can get around that i have bits to make what i need so i did...

all fitted up fine and connected the hoses and checked lock to lock to make sure all was ok and when on full lock the hoses are to short and pull on the copper pipe so not happy and im going to contact HEL in the morning about it as searching the web they are aware of the problem but seems they have not accommodated for all there customers.
what they should be like

and what i have

as you can see i am missing the grommet to but having the reputation they have im sure they will sort it out! for the time being i have put the standard fronts on! just took it for a drive and its cleaning up the disks nicely and the faces are almost flat again after the padgids still with 5mm on ruined the look of all 4. No more pictures as it was dark when i finnished up but if your not happy with your brakes it a route i would recommend going.

Re: The story so far...
Looking good!
I've got some HEL lines comming so it will be interesting what arrives! ... It did worry me a bit that HEL advertise their lines as being compatible with the 'RS4 B7 turbo 4.2'. ... i wish! I've used HEL lines before and they've worked fine so hopefully they've addressed the issue by now.

Re: The story so far...
Hi Ben,
I've had a reply from HEL, they have confirmed that the lines they supply have the 90 degree bend in them. So i'm confident they'll fit correctly.
The guy I contacted was very concerned about your issue and that he hadn't been notified of it. After all, god know what woud have happened if you didn't test lock-to-lock before a full road test. It seems that some disrtibutors make the lines to order and brand them as HEL products and in your case a serious mistake was made.
If you're not happy with the way in which your supplier deals with the issue then i'd suggest you contact HEL directly. At the very very least i'd be expecting a full refund and the supply of correct lines.

Who exactly did you contact to get such a fast reply on a Sunday night? Yeh I'm sure they will do the right thing with there reputation and there's no doubt in my mind if I hadn't tested lock to lock with my late breaking and the speeds of the RS the result could of been fatal! I hate messing with brakes and after having Goodridge line failure in the past I don't want it again that's why went with HEL and let's face it, it's not a good start lol!

The story so far...
I purchased the lines from hel_performance_uk_autosales on EBay. Was very surprised to get such a quick response too!
From the concerned reply I'd imagine these guy's are the actual HEL dealers. I did have a quick look on the net but couldn't find and other cases of incorrect lines bring supplied. I'm not looking to cause a stir but if there more cases of incorrect lines being supplied I would defiantly highlight it to these guy's. After all, the potential impact of certain distributors getting it wrong again is too serious to worry about upsetting as few people.
