Rear brake upgrade question

Post by Rory » Thu Sep 27, 2012 9:36 am

This is just a thought I'm having as I'm getting the front Calipers refurbed and more than likely going a different colour to the black (I am thinking light grey like the ceramics). As the car will be off the road while this work is being carried out I thought I'd opt for a bigger set up.

1. After searching I can't seem to find this BUT - can you get a larger disc (380mm) for the standard FRONT set up with a new carrier installed and does anyone do them? ECS used to do a stage 1 kit for the R32 which you could do this on but I don't think they do for the RS4. I know the ceramics are 380mm but have a difference offset so not sure if you could use that carrier?

2. Who does a big brake kit for the rear (4 pot) that still has the handbrake function. I rang Brembo and they do the 4 pot kit but you lose the handbrake funtion altogether - same story with AP, Alcon and Tarox (although Tarox claim they have a track/road set up due in the new year which still has this function?).

Sorry for the crap noob questions - feel like a proper joke on here coz I know jack! :knob:

Irrc there was a rear seat up that had a second handbrake calliper. It may have well been a Brembo Kit?

Found a company that make custom set ups so looking into that. Should be able to get the 380mm+ fronts and probably porsche 4pot brembos with a seperate handbrake caliper made up for the rear with 355mm discs. We'll see how much it comes to. If it's not too costly I'll have them done and get it all painted in Matt Silver.

Rear brake upgrade question

May I ask why you want bigger rear discs, is it purely for looks or do you track the car?

I found when tracking mine the rears was fine, choosing the right pads really do make a difference and fluid of course.

It's a bit for looks but more because I'm trying to get the car up to a certain level before the power gets upped. I'm aiming for OEM+ in the long run. Car will be tracked as well.

Out of interest what pads and fluid do you run? Also have you got ceramics?

Thanks for your info mate. Appreciated.
