Clutch Switch

Post by Pyrotechnic » Sat Aug 04, 2012 2:45 pm

Picked up a new one this afternoon as I was having the rising revs/hold the start button/no cruise control problem, but got home to find the old one and new one look completely different:

Old: (8EO 927 189)
Image

New: (7H0 927 189)

Didn't want to install the new one as I'd read it was a one-time-only affair, so I just swapped the plug over. This didn't seem to work make any difference. So after some umming and arring, I went for it and installed it, still made no difference, still have to hold the starter to start.

Have I got the wrong part, or am I doing something wrong?

When I had mine replaced 18 months ago, I was told the switch had been improved and updated.

As in, did I depress the plunger? Yeah, I might have had a fiddle...

But, the plunger depresses when you insert it into the bracket before you twist it anyway, so I don't see how you can avoid pressing it at some point?

if you press the plunger in without turning the switch 90* (ie fitting in bracket) then you will brake it (i know :bigblink: ) if you take it out and shake it you will hear the broken bit inside, get a new one and fit it without fiddling with it just take it from the box and fit,you should be able to short the switch plug to see if it cures your prob as its just a 2 pin on/off switch but dont drive like it just check if your start button works without holding down, start button should also stop working if you let the clutch up before its started

Turns out you should just ignore me. Just gone out for another play, and everything's working fine. Starts by tapping the button, cruise control's back, and I think the revs are normal. Cheers for the help though.

Replaced my upper clutch switch today
Gearchange recently has been pretty rough especially in 1st and 2nd (no issues with cruise control or start button)
I thought i'd try the switch and wow what a difference.
All round improvement - worth doing

To get to the switch you need to remove the lower dash panel
3 x screws

Twist and turn the switch and remove, then disconnect the plug.

Push plug onto new switch (being careful not to touch the plunger at the end)

Push new switch in and twist and turn

Refit panel

Have a brew

Job done

This isn't the case with the new part number, that advice applies to the old part number.

Swapped today, easy 5min job.

Not had chance to try yet as it is pissing down and she's staying tucked up in bed.

My original was quite worn at the end.

I replaced the clutch switch, this solved the issue with the cruise control but i still have the revs between gear changes and the engine start switch has to be kept depressed, could i have damaged the plunger when installing.
