as its the inside of the wheel a sock will be fine, the inside is a matt finish, unless they have been refurbed.

I ended up going to my local car parts place in Dunstable and got this Trolley Jack for £24.99 so got every wheel off, eventually, and now my wheels are sparkling!

did you torque the wheel nuts, its well worth the investment in a torque wrench
