Tyre pressure sensor

Tyre fitter has just manages to break one of the tyre pressure sensors on my car whilst
changing a tyre - obviously not his fault

What are to options for buying a replacement?? Presume there rate cheaper options than
direct from Audi?? Seem to remember reading that they could be bought for £60 or there abouts.

Secondly why is it not the tyre fitters fault? Are they saying they couldnt crack the bead of tyre without breaking the sensor?

I would be insisting they pay for the replacement unless they have a very valid reason for why not.

Thirdly I cannot help in the slightest as to where to get a new one from, Audi keep replacing mine under warranty.

I don't think they can be got cheaper. You need the original Audi one, so I suggest either your local dealer or google 'the trade parts specialist' or 'TPS' - they've been discussed in an unrelated topic on here in the last few days. Often cheaper than the dealer, but for something like TPMS prices you're talking a tenner here or there maybe. There's a change they'll have one in stock too, and they'll be able to pick you the right one with your vehicle reg. I can't advise on what you do after that with regards to telling your car about the new one. I'd try playing with the 'wheel change' option in the display in speedo screen. That might do it.

Seemingly it was when he was balancing the wheel - heard a rattle from inside the tyre - tyre back off rim
to find sensor loose inside - cracked where it goes onto the valve. Won't be using them again!!

Just a thought - maybe the fitter just broke the valve stem and doesn't know what he's talking about? They're twelve quid each from my dealer, I didn't bother shopping round as it's handy enough for me. It's the bit you see on the outside and the bit the TPMS connects to.

I haven't actually had any problems with my stems/TPMS but I've just ordered a new set of valve stems as the visible parts are scruffy and will look silly after my wheels get refurbished.

Tyneside Audi. The guy in the parts department knew exactly what I was after. Twelve or fourteen quid each - I can't remember. Maybe there's bargains to be had elsewhere but I was busy and getting the brakes worked on this week anyway. If I had more time I'd try TPS.
