Post by Kaiser1976 » Wed Apr 04, 2012 6:31 pm

Hi

Have dropped my car off at MRC today work to be done

Inlet cleaned
Stage 1 Manifold
Bilstein + anti roll bar
Remap tweak

Already done on the car

Miltek
CAF
Remap

Now can anyone advise me what to expect when I pick up the car next week in regards to speed handling everything all around with the work that's going to be done what thrill can I look fwd to?

I am so excited and can not wait to pick up my baby again :jump:

Good stuff! So will the car be lower when you get it back? Regarding the roll bars: are they Bilstein too? Were they required for the new springs/shocks, or is it a lowering and/or performance tweak?

Hi

The anti roll bars are H&R and they put it down as optional so asked and they said it keeps the car more stable around bend and sits better on the road around bends. I am not and expert at all so hope relayed it back properly.

Yes the car will be coming back lower dougs car was outside the Shop and I will have same height as he has at it really filled out the arches nice but not over the top. Also worried about speed bumps and my kids nursery is up a very extreme hill and don't want to keep hitting the ground going up to the nursery.

The anti roll bars as far as I understood are more for how the car drives around bends rather than preformance.

I seriously can't wait to get her back and drive her back home most likely with a little de-tour hehehehe

No, I think you've relayed it back grand - that's the way others describe it too. And I'd count a car's improved ability to drive round corners as improved performance. [insert joke about 1/4 mile times here]

Yeah true fair point about it also being better performance!!!

Just wish someone could tell me what I have in store once I drive her again!!! Also got a rented car 2.0 litre what a pain so have to get used not having the speed anymore for time being. Can't just get away when you got some blonker right on top of me on the motorway :-(

Just my 2cents - with a stiffer front ARB you're trading raw front end grip for a flater car during cornering.
The pros are that the restricted body roll makes for a more agile feeling car as it will respond quicker to rapid changes in direction and steering input.
The cons are basically once you're in steady state cornering the ultimate grip will be worse and the effect is more noticable the rougher the road.
It's why on a smooth track you can run very stiff shocks/ARB and not compromise the grip that much. The same settings on the road will have you bouncing off into a ditch (I've nearly done this more than once after a long track session).

However given on the road you are very very very rarely at 9/10ths let alone 10/10ths the loss in grip really is negligable.

Update

So went yesterday evening to pick her up from MRC, missed her being on the dyno :-( but spoke to Doug and he showed me the carbon build up pictures on her. And it was bad really bad Doug if you could post the pictures that would be great!

Anyway after settling the bill I could not remove the smile of my face jumping with joy into her and starting her up.

The drive well Doug said you will notice a difference as I gained almost 70ps with the work done. So I drove her warmed her up and onto the M3 and WoW WoW WoW I was thrown back into the bucket seats!!!! I can't explain the joy I had on the M3 there were parts totally empty and I just floored it and I was in total heaven. She felt so comfortable even at high speeds it felt like even so I started to become nervous with the speed (police and cameras) she was wanting more pulling and pulling.

I did take a de-tour and the drive from MRC to my house normally takes 1hr and a half, I arrived home three hours later lol.

I am totally happy she looks amazing the front arches are now totally filled with the wheels and she looks evil from the front.

I even had a little race ok I admit totally unfair race but for some reason the guy in a vauxhall insigma wanted to race me I could not understand it maybe he missed the RS4 badge lol. When I left him for dust we met again at the traffic lights I looked over and just shook my head with a smile and he just smiled apoloetic.

MRC thank you for the work you guys have done I know as Doug said if I want more I need to get down pipes but the wife would kill me if this car gets any louder. I might just buy her a golf that she can drive.

Anyway I can only recommend getting inlets cleaned!!!!!!!!!

Thanks MRC

I priced it up at MRC and it was too expensive at the moment - Inlet cleaned, Bilstein, Milltek, CAF, Remap. Would love to see a pic of how the front end sits on the bilsteins - think I might need them soon. I've just fitted spacers and I'm not convinced about them yet!

Yes I know was sad when I first put her on the dyno at MRC I remember doug saying that's low. Previous owner looks like didn't take any care of her!! But she found now a happy home with a owner that spoils her lol. Also when I got her she had already 65k on the clock

Tim will take some pictures and upload later for you the stance with the bilstein
