TTRS or R8 steering wheel???

Post by moglie » Wed Mar 07, 2012 3:02 pm

Going to change the multifunction steering wheel on my rs4. Looking at either the ttrs flat bottomed wheel or the r8 wheel....which do you guys think looks best?

Also will they swop directly onto the car without any serious work or recoding of the software?

One last thing, anyone got part numbers for either the ttrs or r8 wheels?

Thank you all so much in advance

Swapping the wheel requires the removal of a couple of wires, handling care with an airbag and removal of 1 nut, it's very easy to do, VERY!

Cool, so theres no need to recode or reprogramme the software to keep the multi function features....just swop over the wheel, rewired it back up and away you go??

Any ideas on which wheel would like best guys??

Most people use either the TT/S3 or TTRS flat-bottom manual wheels. TTRS is thicker and has more sculpted side hand grips over the TT/S3 variant. R8 I suspect won't be a prob to fit as well, but I've not heard of anyone using that wheel.

No coding required if you're changing from the RS4 multifunction wheel.

I haven't changed an RS4 wheel, but done a few Golf wheels & it is easy although will need the correct size spline tool (at least for a Golf) so may need a quick trip to the tool Shop depending how well stocked your tools are.

The trick (if you don't have VCDS) is to make sure you don't turn the ignition on with the air-bag disconnected, because if you do it will light an error that will not resolve itself by re-connecting the air-bag, so will need VCDS/trip to dealers to reset.
