Off-topic.... but yet another example why the Sponsor hi-lights don't work in these forums !
click on the "Insure" word and you're taken to the ubiquitous Sky Insurance....
Therefore rs4blacked, your laughable quote implies that Sky Insurance are the culprit, which presumably they're not
... ignore me.
(and yes, that £10k is bonkers innit)

Re: LMFAO
A price comparison site is not the best place to insure a car like this, you need a specialist insurer.rs4blacked wrote:I just went on confused.com to see how much a Supercharged RS4 would be to insure.

I beg to differ. Very strongly!skyinsurance wrote:

The comparison sites are imho much much better than either yourselves or any other specialist I've tried, over the last couple of years.
No "specialist" has been able to get anywhere near the quotes from comparison sites.
.... and I'm talking the usual big companies like Admiral etc... not fly-by-nights.
(low points, low risk area, low everything... but still high premiums from "the specialists".)

Re: LMFAO
Personally I would advise a mixture of both.
Comparison sites are good to get a ballpark from the main brands so at least you have an idea.
Specialists obviously more work as you need to contact them individually but it can work out well. All depends if you are happy with the quotes from confused.com.
The RS4 is a well defined (in insurance category) car so there is no reason why the main insurers can't offer a competitive quote.
Where specialists come into play is with more bespoke and unusual cars - for example, dont' even bother with confused.com with the 211 as it's too niche.
Same goes for the RS4 when you start including modifications and such - some mainstream are ok and will accept a couple things however others run a mile.

Re: LMFAO
This may be the case for you but I am confident in saying a specialist insurer will be a better and easier bet to insure a supercharged RS4. You'll also end up with a better level of cover and be placed with an insurer who actually understand modified cars.TimsterRS4 wrote:I beg to differ. Very strongly!skyinsurance wrote:

Re: LMFAO
I was disagreeing with your implication that Sky as THE 5pecialist Insurer is preferable to a comparison site. Not 5pecialist insurers per se.
I of course agree that 5pecialist insurers in general should always be able to offer a more bespoke and hopefully more cost effective policy for performance cars.
On two occasions, you have been unable to offer me anything even remotely competitive.
Fine, I don't have an issue with that.... I just go shopping elsewhere.
Ps. I don't have any factors that would suggest I am an above normal risk candidate. Your company has on two annual occasions failed to come close to other quotes and on each occasion your staff have said "Oh, not sure why that is.... sorry we can do no better". End of.

I find that it's often the same insurer which works best for an individual. I use Virgin insurance and they have always been the lowest regardless of whether i've used another company for a different car. Specialist insurers tend to be too expensive for my tastes but i can usually get about 10-20% cheaper through Virgin than i can on comparison websites. What really annoys me about confused.com and the like is when the initial screen offers the premium, you follow through the initial steps on the insurer's website and all of a sudden an extra £500 has been added on for no particular reason!

Re: LMFAO
Yeah, I used to find that but for some reason this year the price I ended up paying was exactly what the initial quote on the comparison site was. This was on comparethemarket.com and when I called up the quote there was a small button labelled something like 'buy from insurer'. That linked me through to the company website and the price was exactly the same and that was what I ended up paying.paime wrote:I find that it's often the same insurer which works best for an individual. Re: LMFAO
I find no rhyme or reason to my quotes. I go through the steps on moneysavingexpert.com to cover as many as providers as possible and then ring a few specialists.
I hadn't heard of Sky Insurance until today, but they're now on the list for renewal time purely because they're nice enough to Sponsor RS246.com.

Re: LMFAO
I've had a insurance quote (Fleet Policy) to have a TTS Supercharger put on to my RS4:-
Increase in Group rating from 42 to 50
Excluding drivers under 30 (as at present)
Excluding use for track day events
Market value to remain unaltered
The annual premium would increase by 50% to £1540.17 fully comp with £250 excess (any driver over 30 years old).

Re: LMFAO
To be fair with sky insurance they contacted me and if I was to take out insurance on my RS4 with milltek exhaust today
They were £200 cheaper than most comparison sites, so when my insurance is up for renewal I will try 3 places and which ever is cheapest I will go with.
