Need info asap before I leave deposit on rs4

if you go for the rs and want the sport button to work im sure that will need a feed from the dash button.

I'm fairly sure it isn't the case - the buttons are more like networks than wires. Not like the good ole days.
It's like theres quite a few buttons on the MFSW but only a small numberof wires. IIRC it's voltage controlled and feeds into a steering wheel controler that sends the right CanBus messages to the rest of the car. As such it can be done in software using vagcom and I believe you end up with two sport buttons.
The wheel I have on a different car has about 12 different buttons/functions yet the wheel has 5 wires. 2 for airbag, 1 12+, 1 12- and a signal wire.

The buttons on the steering wheel are connected using a single wire LINbus connection to the steering wheel control module (SCSM) that generates the appropriate messages on the CAN bus, which gets fed around the car for the appropriate modules (in this case the two engine ECUs) to listen to.

VCDS (VAG-COM is the old name) can only change the coding to select from the list of available features and not change the software, so if Audi haven't include the software for a particular feature you can't "create" it using VCDS.

I had the same hang up when I sourced my current Avant, but actually the MFSW isn't so bad
In my own experience, as nice as the RS4 FBSW looks, in reality (on the examples I test drove) its not that well finished and the plastic seperates leaving it looking and feeling tacky

Honestly, I wasn't going to even consider a car without one, but the MFSW is perfectly ok and has all the button functions you don't get with the FBSW, plus it's a nIce size and feel

It's not a cheap change if you did want to swap over, but FWIW, don't let that alone dictate your purchase

I think I've almost made up my mind to change the multi function steering wheel currently fitted to the car. I just don't think it looks special enough in the rs4.

As by most accounts, retro fitting the flat bottomed rs4 lambo style wheel is a bit of a pain, I'm thinking of opting for either the ttrs flat bottom wheel or the r8 flat bottom wheel.

Can someone tell me conclusively if its just a simple process of swopping the current multifunction steering wheel in the car for the ttrs wheel? i.e. by doing a straight swop with the ttrs flat bottomed wheel will it avoid the hassle of having to use different codes/software to get the wheel to function?

Hope someone can let me know as I'm really keen to order the new wheel soon.....

MFSW is far too thin and flimsy feeling, I swapped mine to the FBSW after several months and it's one of the best things I did. Nice chunky steering wheel makes you grip it harder and drive faster!

I also swapped my dashboard S button but nobody has pressed it yet...

Agreed. I also had FBSW on my wish list, but if the rest of the car spec is right, go for it...

Also, same as above, now that I'm driving the car I'm happy with the wheel, and use all its functions... IF I was ever to change, it would only be for a TTRS type; 1) to keep the functions, 2) its better looking /less tacky IMO

-either way, just buy it, and drive it. You'll soon forget about such small details

I understand guys. Ive ordered the car and all so I'm going to be driving it either way. Its just i don't like the look of the multi function wheel so I'm looking to change it to one of the flat bottom wheels. Will the ttrs simply swop with the multifunction one currently fitted without the need for any complicated rewiring/coding??
